Hi everyone,

I know it's early, but I wanted to start a thread for everyone applying or hoping to apply for any ADN programs (Mira Costa, Palomar, Grossmont, SCC, MSJC, etc.) in the Spring!

Feel free to post questions, potential points, admission notifications, etc.! I'm super anxious to hear everyone's experiences and compare points! :)

I'm finally excited to apply & hopeful!

After finishing my associates this semester and replacing a C in Intermediate Algebra with an A in Statistics, I think I'm at 84-85 points at MCC AND Palomar.

I have an Associates in Science, CNA, and work at a hospital (100+ hours)

3.7 in Science Pre-reqs & 3.6 in "Fixed Set"

I get 1 point for needing to work and 1 point for difficult personal circumstances.

Fluent in a language. and scored an 85% on the TEAS.

Hey! I wanted to elaborate on what I know and congratulate you on the 84-85 points :)

MIRACOSTA:

I spoke to the counselor at MiraCosta about nursing the other day. THERE IS A NEW CHANGE TO THE APPLICATION. You must be an EOPS certified student to a personal point for being socially/economically disadvantaged. Finally, the counselor said 89 was the number to get in and they have an average of 350 applicants per semester. Only 25 students get in with 5 alternates... She also said if it came down to people with matching points, they will look at you holistically (healthcare experience...science grades).

Anyway, I bypassed math because I have a bachelor's degree for MiraCosta so it will not be calculated.

PALOMAR:

I emailed the director of Palomar nursing and asked if I should apply with 85 points. He said I had a good chance despite not being able to discuss what point number can get someone in.

My final point totals will be:

85 Palomar College

86 MiraCosta College

I am praying we all get in... it's so competitive. We will all get there one day! It's not a race!!! I hope this helped anyone... reply to this with any questions and i've divulge more if I have the info.

I have looked over the Point Criteria for both MCC & Palomar and realized I did not give myself enough credit LOL. So edit: I calculated 86 points for Palomar and 87 points for Mira Costa. It's a huge difference to my application from the past 2 semesters...I also work at one of the hospitals where BOTH schools hold their clinicals. I know they say letters of rec don't affect much, but I think it may help with your point about the "holistic" approach they take when choosing between 2 identical applications. I'm hoping *fingers crossed* the administration recognizes the names writing my letters LOL!

Wow, AminahFlor! I agree about the letter of rec. I am submitting one from an RN that I worked with during my volunteer hours. When I asked the MiraCosta counselor about LOR, she really implied they don't care and focus on experience/science grades. Who knows though, if I was judging applications and it came down to yours and someone with the same points and also a letter, I'd chose you because you have the "better" experience! I am turning my applications in on monday to both schools. I will try and ask nosey questions about points and how many people have turned in applications so far. Wish me luck! I am banking on getting into Palomar so i'd be devastated if I didn't...

I'm banking on Palomar too! I'd choose MCC over any other school, but because it's so competitive I'm keeping the expectation of a rejection letter lol

Maybe we'll be in school together! We have very similar points :)

Hope we both get in!!! The program director of Palomar said 85 has a "pretty good chance" at getting in so 86 must be a really good chance. I also hope more people make an account and talk points... I see alot of people reading this post and not alot of comments! ;D

Hey everyone! I'm applying to Palomar and Grossmont for Spring 2019, too. By my calculations, I have 80 points. Does anyone know what the point cut off was in previous semesters for these programs? I think it was 87 for Mira Costa for the last application period, but not sure about other programs.
