Mira Costa, Palomar, etc. Spring 2019 Cohort

Published

Hi everyone,

I know it's early, but I wanted to start a thread for everyone applying or hoping to apply for any ADN programs (Mira Costa, Palomar, Grossmont, SCC, MSJC, etc.) in the Spring!

Feel free to post questions, potential points, admission notifications, etc.! I'm super anxious to hear everyone's experiences and compare points! :)

Hey everyone! I'm applying to Palomar and Grossmont for Spring 2019, too. By my calculations, I have 80 points. Does anyone know what the point cut off was in previous semesters for these programs? I think it was 87 for Mira Costa for the last application period, but not sure about other programs.

Hey! I am not sure about Grossmont or Palomar. When I talked to the girl I turned my application at Palomar into, all she said was "higher [points] is better." I've seen on a previous forum for fall 2018 that people were getting into Palomar (at least as alternates) with 84-86. I'd like other people to share their info on this as well!

MiraCosta Counselor told me 89 gets you in for sure, 88 got you in last semester. She told me my 86 points probably wouldn't get me in but to apply anyway.

I didn't even try to apply to Mira Costa because I knew I wouldn't get in. For Palomar, I've heard of people getting in at 78-79 points on the last round. That was for this fall, though and spring semester isn't supposed to be as competitive. I applied to Grossmont for this fall at the beginning of the year and didn't get in.

Honestly, Miracosta ALWAYS SAYS "86-90 points won't get you in" and I think that may be exaggerating... Maybe to push applicants harder? Idk... I've made a full page of notes from the last 4 semesters on users on this site & their points/admittance. Mira Costa has averaged at 81-90 for admittance....

I wonder that too. The nursing counselor said 87 gets you in at the meeting a semester ago and she told my friend 88 at a counseling appointment. THEN, a month later she tells me 89. People with 89 points have their pick of school so it all depends how many of them decline their spots...

As far as peeps getting into Palomar with 78 points... that seems low!! I hope that is true!!

Honestly I would be happy with ANYTHING at this point!!! It's been a longggg 2 years :)

Did you make notes of when notifications went out, too? I know Grossmont and Mira Costa are pretty early. I think September - October timeframe? But I'm not sure about Palomar.

yes I did!!! PM me, I can send you my notes

Turned in MiraCosta app. The nursing receptionist went over my application. She said spring is equally as difficult to get into and they have about 300 applicants. She also said 20 applicants are accepted TOTAL and a few alternates.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, she said the average student is accepted with 91 points.

91 points.

...notifications will be sent out mid/late october she said

yes I did!!! PM me, I can send you my notes

Sent!

I submitted my applications on Monday!

My official points at Mira Costa are 87, and 86 for Palomar..

Mallory did mention the average, she said the applicants are getting more cut throat every semester... HOWEVER, she told me that my points are great, and may or may not get me in.

She said I can call once the application filing period has ended for the "official" average points

Hi!

So I applied for spring 2019 at Palomar. Ive applied before with a point total of 78. unfortunately didn't get it :( Now, I'm back with my associates degree.. bumping me up to 83. I remember reading last cohort's forum and several people got in to Palomar with 79/80 points. Crossing my fingers this semester is the same !

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you! I applied before with 78 points, too and didn't get in. I have 80 now and I'm reapplying. I'm working on my CNA in case I don't get in. I have all of the credits needed for a general studies degree, I just need a Exercise Science class so I'm considering doing that, too if this round is a no-go. The waiting is killing me, though! And the application period JUST ended. It's gonna be a long few months.
