Hey everyone! I've become interested in applying for MWSU for Fall 2015, but I have yet to see any threads about it so I decided to start one myself! Could anyone help me with their point system?
@keunnamonae u just type Midwestern state university on Instagram or what? @ angieperry So I looked up some schools and their nclex passing rate also. Not just Midwestern has had a bump. Sam Houston state university last year had below 70 nclex rate, Texas a&am Corpus Christi, ut San Antonio also had below 70 nclex rate. These are top nursing schools also in Texas and had a bump, but they would all be back. Another school west Texas a&m was almost warning coz of their nclex passing rate, but they changed stuff and now it's more than 90% passing nclex rate. Like I said teachers can teach, left for student to go home and do more studying out of the classroom, and also not just what is taught in class but other things too.
Hi all, I am a senior here at MWSU's traditional program and graduating next Friday (HOORAY!) Regarding the MWSU warning as far as the NCLEX not having an impressing pass rate, there have been many positive changes in regard to what needed to be addressed. All I know is that our upcoming class who are graduating this May will hopefully change that outcome. Some things to know as a student is that you should start preparing for the NCLEX even during the program. There are many resources out there like Saunders-Nclex (yellow book), evolve hesi comprehensive review for the nclex, study for success workbooks, and nclex driven practice questions with rationales that will help learn the material and get you prepared for the type of questions you will be asked with the NCLEX. Midwestern is a great program and I highly recommend it. I have had great and at the same time challenging professors who stress within their material and in lecture the importance of practicing as a SAFE nurse and with that being said, will not allow advancement if in the program if you academically and clinically show you will not be able to provide safe care to the public. Just because a student gets through the program does not mean they do not have to study for the boards. If anyone has questions/needs advice regarding the application process, finding residence while in the program, what there is to do out here and try to keep sane while studying your head off, or any questions in general, I would be more than happy to help as I was in your shoes! I was going through here to seek internship status questions and came through this. Good luck all and if you are driven and stay focused, nothing can stop you. :)
Also might I just add in regard to changes in the staff, BELIEVE me, yes there were changes for the GOOD of the student's ability to learn as well as for the program's reputation. (All I can say in the most discrete way is that you are SOOO lucky that you don't have to experience what I had!!!) The right professors who are prime examples of how you want to be as a nurse are there to help, all you have to do is show that you are there to learn and speak up, ASK. Again, like I said, let me know if you have any questions. I can give heads up on what to expect in courses, each semester, etc I am excited for you all. Good luck on your journey to your passion!
@HoneybagerRn thank you so so very much and congratulations that must be exciting wohoo. I am somewhat relief with that news. I was a bit nervous and skeptical before, as a final year student talked badly about the school and the program itself made me scared at a point. How are the professors in general there? How do you stay sane at the same time studying your butt off? Which classes where the most challenging and how do you tackle them? Are there resources in school like maybe additional teaching, if you dot understand a course? Do you think you actually learned throughout the program and are confident and all?Lastly, how's clinicals like, like the hospital you went to do actual clinical and also the sim lab in school?
@HoneyBadgerRN Congrats and thank you so much for the help. It is refreshing to here from someone else regarding the program. I am glad to hear that changes have been made and the program is getting back because I was worried for a second. I think with the changes we will be fine. I think lorr19 asked all the big questions so I guess what is there to do out there? I know I relax after studying my brains out is to try and go have some fun. Thank you again. I believe you reassured many people.
