I work at Baptist Hospital in Nashville. New to nursing (May 03). Considered Vandy but wondered about it being so big and being new to nurse. All seemed a little intimidating. How do you feel about new nurses and Vandy?

I didn't find Vandy that difficult to navigate. Patient care areas are either in the tower, round wing, or the East tower (at least that's what I recall...it has been 5 years since I worked there!) Rarely got lost...mostly in Med. Ctr. North, where there are 3 different 5th floor areas...and none of them are connected!

I've been at a hospital in Chattanooga for 3 1/2 years...it is far more confusing to navigate than Vandy was. Trying to figure out which elevator to take to get to the correct patient location (elevator banks A-M)...The locations of different buildings within buildings (as bad as, if not worse than Med. Ctr. North!). I'm still learning my way around.

Oh well, life goes on, eh? ;)

Does anyone know Jere Younger RN, worked at Vandy and worked where eye surg pts were recovered. He and I attended UTN, studied together. His family and mine were close, we moved to Missouri and lost track. If you know him please let him know of this so he can contact me if he so desires. Thanks

Joe Willis RN,C.

Latest information is that Jere Younger is now working for the Veterans Administration Hosp. Whether in Nashville or somewhere else in Middle Tennessee, I don't know. Any info regarding VA Hospitals e-mails or if anyone knows Jere or Sharon Younger will be apppreciated. Thanks. :rotfl: :balloons:

Hi, although not a nurse myself, my daughter wants to be a nurse practichner. She is currently a senior in high school. She has already been accepted to UT Knoxville and Tennessee State University. I really want her to attend UT and would like any experences that you have had, good or bad at either school. Please post here or feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] Thank you

Kim here. I worked at Vandy and Southern Hills years ago. I now work as a life care planner and case manager from my home.

I am a native Nashvillian too, which seems to be becoming an extinct species here :) None of my neighbors are even from TN.

Which drs do you work with? Our regulars are Lewis,Schullman, Golper and Ikizler. We also have any number of renal fellows at our disposal.

I work at St Thomas. Dr. Schullman was at one time our medical director in the dalysis unit at St T. Is he still as shaky and nervous? :p

Specializes in er, pediatric er.

I work as an extern for Monroe Carell Chidren's Hospital at Vanderbilt in Peds ED, I love Vanderbilt, as well. i worked on 8N in VUMC. before transferring to Children's. I love the new hospital, it is truly beautiful! I will be graduating in May with my bachelor's in nursing from Cumberland University in Lebanon, TN (which is a good program, by the way, if anyone is interested!). I have just had my first interview for the Pediatric Nurse Residency Program for after graduation. I REALLY hope I get it because Peds is all I have ever wanted to do :balloons: I don't know if you guys are familiar with the NRP program, but what they do is take new grads or others who have not worked with the pediatric population, and put them in a 22 week program where they get classroom and skills training, along with a clinical preceptorship. You get to float through acute care, PICU, NICU, and the ed, after the initial float through, you and the managers decide which unit you want to work on. I hope I get a position!!!

would love to work there and attend their law school....dont care about graduate Nsg program..wonder if i could work there and they help pay for law..

...probably just a fantasy...will have to stay with Ole Miss law school..enjoy your day...dave

Specializes in Med-Surg, Tele, ER, Psych.

Nice to see other TN nurses here! I work in Carthage. Tiny tiny hospital.

I went to the Cumberland University nursing program!! Class of '98 here.

Vandy is a great hospital, but as an ER nurse in a rural area, I have to say I don't like the attitude of the lifeflight nurses. Not had a good experience with them at all.

I love middle tennessee!

I will be graduating from Cumberland in May! If I had not quit college straight out of high school, I would have been in the class of 98. As a matter of fact, I have two friends who did graduate in the class of 98! I live in Lafayette, so I am familiar with Carthage. I work at Vanderbilt Children's in the ER. I love Vandy, however sometimes I think that there is something I call "Vanderbilt snobbery" when it comes to smaller hospitals. I have never had any problems with the Lifeflight nurses, but I am on the other end at Vanderbilt, si I wouldn't. I am in awe of them many times because they can keep their cool no matter how critical the situation is! Nice to talk to someone in my neck of the woods.
