How big is it? Vanderbilt all it's made out to be? My hubby is from the area... (Carthage) and one of his daughters lives in Murfreesboro. We go down there pretty often, to the Nashville area. :)

jnette,

Vandy is indeed huge. As of 1998, Vanderbilt univ. employed something like 10,000 folks. I don't recall how many were medical center employees. Nursefiggy, do you know waht the current numbers are?

Also, nursefiggy, did you ever work on 10S? I recall a nice group of folks there on night shift. I worked on 9S in the mid-90's. Volunteered to go up to 10S with our Liver transplant patients during 9S's renovation in '96.

There are some days that I really miss working with transplant patients. Then I remind myself to get my rear in gear & go to grad school!

I am from Nashville, I have a few family members that work at . I will hopfully be working there when I graduate!

I work at Baptist Hospital in Nashville. New to nursing (May 03). Considered but wondered about it being so big and being new to nurse. All seemed a little intimidating. How do you feel about new nurses and Vandy?

Vandy is indeed huge, I work in Renal pathology and get lost all the time. So many buildings and people. I am not a nurse, but a nurse wanna be! I am currently in school about to graduate with A BS in Business and want to join the VU program for NP. Any of you have come to school here? Any thoughts?

I don't work in the hospital. We are located across the street in the Village. I don't have to hassle with the prking garages and the long walks. is huge and confusing! I am actually not a Vandy employee but an affiliate. I work for Renal Care Group.

eltrip: we work closely with 10S as they have our pts sometimes. If one of our pts gets admitted to the hospital you can bet they are on 10S. They keep us updated on the condition of our pts and alot of times we have to share information. (Within HIPPA guidlines, of course)

I think working with or at Vandy is a boom to your career. Vandy os world known as a premier research and teaching hospital. Looks good on a resume! Good benefits and continuing education too.

You are absolutely right. I love Vanderbilt! It is worth the Parking Garage pain...lol

As I said, I work in Renal Pathology (We might have seen some of your patients before!). THe doctor I work with is a world class doctor. She travels all over the world to do talks and participates in awesome research. Our team is wonderful, and I will hate to leave when I start the MSN program. It is good to work in a place like this, where you are always learning or at least encourage to do so.

Which drs do you work with? Our regulars are Lewis,Schullman, Golper and Ikizler. We also have any number of renal fellows at our disposal.

Yes, nursefiggy, having worked at has been nothing but a blessing for me. After I moved to East Tennessee, I discovered just how well regarded Vandy is outside of Middle Tennessee. The prevailing attitude has been, "Oh, you've worked at Vanderbilt, you can handle anything." Uh huh, & without training, too! Yeah, right!

It will certainly help as I enroll in Graduate School. I meet with a program coordinator on Wednesday. Yippee!!:chuckle

Well we work with all of them, actually do their Pathology. Dr. Fogo is my direct supervisor, she is the director of Renal Pathology. We look at the pathology to diagnose the kidney, which is in turn reported to the Nephrologist and he then makes a decision on how to treat the patient. We have a nephrology fellow come every month, to stay 30 days to learn about renal pathology. So you and I probably see the same fellows in rotation.

Are you applying to Graduate school in ?
