I loved Micro and I did really well because I had an interest in it. Compared to A&P, in my opinion, I found it much easier. I hated A&P. Micro was just so interesting to me (though I'm a bit of a germaphobe lol). The lab and hands on also helps understand what you're learning. Good luck!!
well, i did micro distance learning (excelsior) lol which was twice as hard,,,,more dry than a class room, but the basic course content is the same...know infections, and phases of infection,,,what hormones interact with what and when...i took it a few years ago, but i do believe infections, and infection chains (host, mode of transmission...etc,,,,was a biggie...hope it helps....
I just had my first micro class the other day, and I will say learning the vocab (terms in book) is important. MY teacher said read read read, learn the vocab, and she'll be able to help us so much more if we know what she's talking about ahead of time. Don't go to class withouyt having already read the chapters your prof will cover in lecture, b/c then you WILL be lost. I need to know Ch.s 1 and 2 for my lecture Tuesday, and I'm doing everything short of memorizing the book line by line to learn it, so I know what she is talking about in her lecture. I think people who fail do so b/c they think the prof will etach them everything in their class lecture, but that's false. You need to go to class with knowledge of what you are going to learn so the concepts will stick better. At least this is what I have learned so far. I hope this helps! Oh, and STUDY STUDY STUDY! lol
Trying sitting in the front of class so you get the most out of the class. I just finished taking micro last semester and will be starting nursing school next Tuesday. I agree with the comment to go to ratemyprofessor.com to get an idea of how your professor teaches. Also, ask your professor how they would prefer you to study for this class. I tried doing the questions at the end of the chapter for my class, but in the end it turned out to be a waste of time since my professor tested on everything that was said in lecture. Be sure to take notes that you understand and reviewing them after class way before it's time for the exam. Also try to read the lab procedures before going to lab so you have an idea of what you are doing, to save time, as well as get out early. In my class we had lab right after lecture and this was a night class so getting out early if possible was important to me. Also make sure you take notes in lab so you understand the lab procedures and why you're doing the labs and why it is an important procedure. During my class we had lab practicals where you had about a minute and half to go to each station and you could not go back to each station. I found all these tips helpful and I ended getting an A in the class. I hope these tips help.
I agree with All things Pink: I truly believe that A&P I and II were hard and Micro was hard too, but in a different way. It made you reach into your inner brain and understand things that are kind of foreign. I was lucky to tape the class and listened to it like a music CD. That helped alot. I am a germ study lover so that helped too. My advice for the class is brush up on Chemisty!! The first 3 chapters were all Chem, for example: on question on was which compond contains a methol group? and Which one is an ester? Then he would give us a bunch of componds. I loved this class, but dont let that fool you, after the third class i almost dropped it thinking I was not smart enough. I prevailed and got an A. I was so sure I didnt pass it I signed up for it again. If I can do it anyone can do it. Although I ate, drank and slept with the book. My poor husband. Good luck.:redbeathe:yeah:
