Just getting the Microbiology thread started for those of us taking it this summer :) Let's introduce ourselves. I'm sure we may recognize each other from the A&P thread and hopefully there will be some new students too!
I'm Jennifer, married with 3 kids (11,6,2). I'm starting the nursing program in August and other than my humanities elective, I'll be ALL DONE with gen. ed. courses. I've been a SAHM for 7 years but am considering a PT summer job to help pay for expenses (mine and DD's - middle school is expensive between cheerleading ($305), flute ($700!!) and the newly mandated uniforms ). Oh and I have been a mystery shopper for 7 years too which basically helps us get out and do stuff that we otherwise wouldn't be able to afford.
My classes start May 17. I'm taking Micro Tues, Wed, Thurs from 6-9 (lecture from 6-7:20, lab from 7:30-9.) I'm also taking English 102 online. YUCK. I don't want to write papers this summer. We're using Tortoro's book in Micro, BTW.
I really have no idea what to expect for this course. I did very well in A&P 1 and 2 (A :balloons: ) but am feeling a bit burnt out - having only 1 week off between spring and summer semester is not enough. We have the entire week of July 4th off for break, and DH and I are surprising our kids with a week in Disneyworld We can't wait!! I spend way too much time on the DIS boards and planning our trip:p
I think the daily quizzes are cutting me out of my A. I just don't have time to study for tests, lab practicals, and daily 5 point quizzes. (My average for the daily quizzes is 4 (out of 5), but a total of 88 instead 110 hurts when I'm not making perfect scores on the tests. (lowest grade is 40 out of 50)
3 classes left for me!!!!!!!!!! WOOOHOOO!
Good luck to you all!!!!!!!!!!!
Only 6 classes of Micro. left!! Not my favorite class in the world but I will survive. So far I've been able to maintain an A hopefully it will hold out til the end. It feels good to see the light at the end of that long tunnel.
Boy,I envy all of you that are almost done with this class! I have 3 weeks left of mico-hell:( So far, at the midterm I have an A+ in lecture and lab....no clue how I pulled that off but I won't complain! It's great having this long weekend. Gotta admit, I have not looked at ANYTHING...no books, no lab reports...nada! I'm giving my brain a break from all this stuff. Sounds like everyone else is doing awesome as well!! Way to go guys....best of luck to you on your finals.
mico-hell....best of luck to you on your finals.
I like that! (I've been calling it MicroSUX!) lol
and Thanks!....I need all the luck I can get! I've been studying all weekend, but I know I don't know hardly anything for the lab Tuesday, it all went too fast trying to do our unknown at the same time. (...and hardly anything for test 5 tomorrow, and hardly anything for the final!) lol
I just hope I manage a B. I hate that I'm probably not going to get an A, after setting curves in A&P 1. I've just had so much going on. Hubby's been extremely busy this month, mom had surgery and stayed a week with us, family came in from out of town and stayed a different week, and my kiddos.... ugggh I'll appreciate my B, and happily congratulate any of y'all that can pull off an A in this &(&* class. Overall, I have started to like it, but it will always be MicroSUX to me! )
I got 100% :balloons:2 more exams to go. Good thing I already wrote my paper because my enthisiasm has completely died LOL
WOW! WAY To go!!!!! I don't even know what a 100 feels like as far as MicroSUX tests....made some 5/5 on quizzes though lol
I think I'm ready for test 5. Even though I can drop my lowest test grade, I studied a little for it. I've been mostly concentrating on the final. I just didn't want to get a 20 or something low like that and be embarrassed. lol
Off to class I go........
Good Luck!! I'm sure you'll do great! :)
Well, without really studying, I made 35.3 points out of 50...lol Of course it didn't matter b/c the lowest is dropped. I have 8.3 points of extra credit going into the final tomorrow....need about 50 extra points LOL
On my last lab practical I made 27 out of 30 points.
I could actually make an A, if I could make around an 83. (YEAH RIGHT!!!). The bright side is, I only need around 28 points to have a B. :)
.....still hoping, but I'll be satisfied with a B, and MicroSUX will be over with!!!!!!!!
Hope all is going well with everyone! :)

Hopefully, your experience in Microbiology was successful. I have just begun a 5-1/2 week course in Microbiology myself. The book that I'm using is Microbiology by Bauman. Do you have any advice? It has been many years since I've taken a Biology or Chemistry course (Excluding A/P).
I'm a mother of two 16 year olds (GIRLS!) :balloons: I've just completed Nursing 101. :yelclap: :biggringi I loved the clinicals! The hospital experience was so enlightening. Good luck in August! :)
