Microbiology - Summer 09

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

My class starts on June 1st. Its a 10 week long semester and I'm taking it along with A&P II and General Psych. Thought I would start this thread since I know a few others have to be taking it this summer too. I'll let you know what we have in the way of assignments and tests when we start. We're using the Cowan textbook btw. I'm actually excited about this class, should be fun. :yeah:

I just completed a 4 week A & P II class (I got an "A"). I started this 4 week Micro class 5 days later. I have to complete both classes this summer to keep my seat in my BSN program this Fall. The 2nd week just started. I got an "A" on our first test (this past Monday). We have 3 more tests, all of which will occur on a Monday. That's a good thing considering that it gives us the weekend to study. Now, having said all of that, this is a LOT of work to do in 4 weeks. Our regular semester is 16 weeks. I think my 3 kids & my hubby are tired of me being holed up in a room studying for hours EVERYDAY. Heck, "I'M" tired of being holed up in a room studying for hours everyday. Well, back to the books...

I am in week 3 of my class and love it! I have an A so far and my instructor is great! I am so relieved - it is a LOT of work but the class is interesting so I don't mind.

I know exactly how you feel, In2Win. Thank goodness for my husband because he keeps the kids occupied when he's not working, but they're tired of not seeing me without my face in my book or notecards. Good luck with your class!

I start class tomorrow. We are using the tortora 10th edition book too. How many hours a day is everyone studying? I'm pretty scared about this class. All I can do is do my best though.

I'm more nervous about the lab. What does lab and lab test/quizzes consist of?

Not sure if you've already had your lab quiz...we are using the same book. I had my 1st lab exam last week, and our professor covered the objectives of each lab. We weren't expected to memorize the results. For example, we were responsible for knowing the different staining techniques and we had to be able to identify and distinguish between gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

All done! I kind of love summer session. It feels great to have knocked this out in eight weeks.:D

I never would have guessed it would be so interesting. I can see how valuable this information is going to be in future, too.

A few days left...almost done with this!!! This class is very relevant btw...I seriously wash my hands now lol..

This is my last week of a 4 week summer Micro course. I've gotten an A on each of our tests so far but I still have the final exam to go. I'm so glad there's a light at the end of this tunnel & it's not a train :chuckle.

I am so ready for this semester to be over on the 9th. I still have a 5 page term paper, 4 quizzes, a lab, lab quiz and an exam to do by then, ugh. Its so close I can taste it!!

I passing my lab with an A so far but I am so very bad in the lecture :( so I am going to take the lecture part over since I am not satisfied with my grade. Can anyone from MA refer a more microbiology class lecture to me or even a online school?

So stoked, just finished--I needed 45% on the final for an A and I killed that test...very interesting and relevant course I must add.

micro in 6 weeks = hella easier than doing it for 16 weeks (would be hella boring I would assume and a drag). I loved how fast it goes.

Finished 8 week Micro with an A...huge sigh of relief! I feel a little sad, though, because what could have been and should have been an interesting class turned into a nightmare. I started out thinking our little drill sargeant teacher was just trying to give us a taste of nursing school boot camp and ended up thinking she had some major personal issues and needs some kind of help. I don't mind a teacher presenting challenging material and setting high standards for a class, I do want to get my money's worth for my classes, just hope the N program instructors aren't all somewhat unbalanced.
