Hi everyone I'm new to allnurses.com and wanted to ask if anyone has taking microbiology with lab online at Palm Beach State College or anywhere else that is accredited. I originally took it and got a C in both the lab and lecture because I had right hand and wrist surgery, so I wasn't able to do alot of things with my left hand. Long story short I really want to apply for the Nov 1st at NSU (nova southeastern university) and I'll be finished with my prerequisites by sept 9th and will be at a 3.0 or maybe higher. If I could find an online micro class with labs and complete it around nov 1st it'll drastically boost my gpa up. Maybe I'm being paranoid but I am anxiously wanting to get accepted in a nursing program. Thank you for all the help.

Yes, I took one many years ago at Rio Salado in Phoenix. Did you have a question about it?
Is it harder to take online than in class? Do I have to do a transfer in their school? I wanted to do it in my school online but they wouldn't let me, so I'm just trying to see if it's worth me retaking it or if I should wait until after Nov to see if I get accepted or not and worry about it then.

Hmm if you have the time you might as well take it to see if you do better I would say. I'm in the same boat but haven't taken micro before. I've actually never taken an online course, so am really nervous at the prospect of a science + virtual lab online. I'm just praying it's not as bad as I'm anticipating. I guess I just worry that my professor won't be accessible if I'm struggling with something. I'm looking at online micro at Johns Hopkins or the University of New England right now. I hope someone who has experience taking online micro can ease our anxiety about it!

Hmm from my understanding, you can't retake a class that you already passed with a C or higher. And from my experience, I feel like online it's a lot harder than a face to face class.

Before you do that, be sure to check with the nursing department and the school's registrar to see if they're willing to accept online lecture and labs. If you are good at knowing how to scan for the most important details in a chapter, you'll probably do just fine, but remember it's a class that packs a ton of info into it. It will require a decent amount of self-discipline.
To respond to a comment before mine, whether a school will allow a retake on a C is individual to that school. The school I took my gen eds at would let us retake Cs and below. Bs you had to keep.
I don't know if it's harder in real life because I never took it in real life, only online. I found it to be interesting and not difficult.
