Michigan HPRP newbie

Nurses Recovery

Advice please! All the info on here so far looks like it’s from 9 yrs ago.

I Self reported to my work and then to HPRP for norco. Went into Rehab for a week. Resigned my position due to home care, I was told from my company I am leaving in good standing and they would re hire in another capacity. Initial intake with HPRP completed. HPRP evaluation completed.... told to wait 3 weeks for my results or monitoring program. I was told BON would not be notified if I was 100% compliant, and that I can look for a job and they would not know (?) as long as I was compliant... however that looks like it’s not true because you need a work site monitor. I am applying to mental health RN positions hoping that they would be more understanding and that I won’t be passing narcotics, to avoid having all my new co workers know I am being monitored.

The evaluator stated she would recommend I can work ASAP, that midnight shifts will not be a problem, and that many people to get hired when employers know you are in the program because you are being drug screened often.

Should I get a lawyer before signing anything ? What should I expect? Are they full of *** with these promises? How long are we looking here.. I know Michigan has a 3 yr max monitor program??

I had 18 yrs of excellence on my job... I admitted to taking norco 15 tablets from 1 patient over the last year and have had 2 Vivitrol injections to to prove non addiction issues.

thanks in advance!!!

I have been looking at dialysis too... they are all 40 hrs a week tho... I am looking for about 25 to 30... ?

What can I expect during the intake/evaluation process to HPRP determine if I need treatment? What questions to they ask? (Do they try to trick you into admitting you require help)?

I would need more information of your situation to help answer the question

@Bravo-rn47 im suspended from from my hospital for co-waste discrepancy. We use old school paper charting so it must have been flagged by an audit. I haven’t been told anything other then I am not to come to work unless I have authorization from HR pending results of their internal investigation. We have had tons of issues in the past few months with shift change counts off, meds not signed out properly, keys missing, keys taken home, not accounted from, manager is fully aware and nothing was done. I feel like going to be a scapegoat and take the fall. Based on what I’ve been reading I’m assuming they’re going to say I was diverting and the HPRP scares me to death. I could only go that program if I was working as a RN and it doesn’t seem promising based on what I’m reading from others experiences.

You need a lawyer... hprp is for addictions... mostly people with DUI’s or admitting diversions... it’s not a program for allegations unfounded. It doesn’t sound like you fit the profile unless you are not being honest with yourself. I take it you don’t have a union?

if they drug tested and you passed.. I would quit that job ASAP. If your employer does report you to BON ... you will be investigated and you will need a lawyer. Are you the only person involved in the allegations??

HPRP would not get involved unless you have a substance abuse issue. It starts out with an hour interview over the phone... but it is all substance questions... 100% people who are in hprp basically are forced into program to keep license and that doesn’t even guarantee anything... BON works completely separate from hprp.

hope that helps!!! Good luck

@Bravo-rn47 No union. I’m contingent. I did quit. Looking for new jobs like crazy. They were suppose to have results of the investigation by last week, still haven’t heard anything. I swear I only want to work where there are omnicell/Pyxis. I’ll know they’re not 100% perfect but at least it’s better then paper charting for narcs. Thanks for all you feedback, it helps so much.
