Hello! Are there any MDCC nursing students out there?? I'm currently wrapping up my pre-req's at MDCC and will be applying to MDCC for their Accelerated ADN program for January of 2006. Is anyone currently enrolled in that program? Was it difficult to get in? What is your schedule like..(between class hours and rotations). And can you pick which hospital to do the rotations at? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Also, remember MDC will likely start their BSN program in Spring '08. I'm just finishing my ADN here at MDC (5 more weeks to go!), and from what I heard from instructors, it will be more affordable for MDC students, especially if you're doing the RN-BSN program!

Exactly! that's true...all the more reason to do the MDC rn program! ...good lookin out szelda!;)

hi nwlatino76 and szelda, thanks so much you guys have been my angels. this career can be very stressful especially when this is something that you really want to do. i started working at this job as a secrtary and seeing all the rns work there break my heart not because im hating on them but because thats my dream job. moving to miami has been hard for me becuz when you have all your friends back home there usually your supporters (thats if they are good friends which they are) but being here has been so tough to meet people...i just have my fiancee and thats it!!!

but thanks so much.....i will start mdc kendall campus on may 2007 to take the chemistry class(professor johann and lab with professor jean mary). thats all i need, i just sent out the application for the generic program at mdc, gpa is 3.1 but i will study my #@% off! need a a!

i also took a psychology class human sexuality just to increase the gpa higher hopefully to a 3.4 or 3.5. thanks and plz keep in touch..

Well it looks like it is that time of year again. That time when people are waiting to hear what school they got into. I have applied at Barry and MDC. Both schools have their merits.

Miami Dade - Cheaper and soon to have BSN program.

Barry - Smaller and have a well established BSN program. And for me, A LOT easier commute.

I have a 4.0 GPA as of now and by the end of next week (finals) will have all my pre-reqs completed (hopefully the GPA survives).

Anybody else out there?

What exaclty are the pre-reqs for Barry? I applied there but I do not know what classes to take. Just curious. Also what is the average GPA for students to get in to barry nursing? I have a 3.2 is that good enough? My GPA for science is a 3.7.

I go to ATI college of health doing respiratory therapy. I got a 3.8 gpa at ATI and 2.8 gpa at bcc. I heard there is some affiliation between miami dade community college and ATI in miami. Is it true. I am almost done with Respiratory therapy program planning to take the board exam in couple of months. Has anyone tried the bridge program that Miami dade has. Please let me know. I cant find any information about people who did bridge prog at Miami dade. Please let me Know if anyone got any info on it. THanks

no, but i did attend MDC for my AA in pre-nursing to get my BSN. I'm currently waiting to see if i get in to schools i applied for. I did my research and unless you have personal circumstances that keep you from being an RN as opposed to LPN or the LPN program is extremely cheaper, it's not a good investment for some people. LPNs don't make as much when you look at the time committment when it comes to schooling as RNs do for the associates program. If i'm not mistaken you already have an AA and a BA so if you can pay for the AS in nursing then go for that instead...the return on investment is night and day. the only other choice is LPN then Bridge to RN but from what i see in your situation you don't have much financial aid left and you need the most bang for your buck with what you have left...the RN seems from the looks of things like the best choice. Kick @$$ in your remainding classes to improve your GPA and hope for the best. Although i think you can get in with your GPA as it is but getting it better doesn't hurt. I had a close friend who started school jsut after me (she is in the MDC nursing program right now) and she got in with a 3.0gpa. word is and that people have gotten in with less even though you hear all over the place that some people got in with so so high GPA. The truth is if you have skill that is required...bilingual, creole or spanish your ahead of the game. You'd be surprised at how many people here ARE NOT truly bilingual even though they may be of hispanic heritage or they claim to speak spanish but really they speak it "todo machacao" as we native speakers would say. Also if you ahve experience in the medical field or healthcare field you get more consideration...even though they'll never come out clean and say it. Bottom line it is a fact that people with lower GPAs have gotten into the MDC nursing program my friend is living proof of such. So don't count yourself out, as my dad always says, el ultimo minuto tambien tiene 60 segundos (the last minute also has 60 seconds).

you are very right. You never know if your 3.0 might get you in!

I had a 3.3 and I was never accepted to MDC- and to this day that angers me.

I know I was a great candidate for that school - but for some reason or another I was never picked.

I went to BCC- finished and became an RN- and I feel proud of myself for doing so.

Keep trying and searching for the dream job!

Hi all!

Is there a waiting list in MDCC's nursing program? I am currently taking my pre-reqs at Broward Community College and thinking of transferring to Dade because BCC will not accept applications to the program until Jan 07 for the Aug 07 class.

Thanks!

did you get into the RN program???

I graduated BCC and became an RN last year

Thanks for your quick response. I am currently taking my pre-reqs at BCC for ASN but the waiting time is ridiculous. I'm checking other schools maybe after I finish taking Micro next summer.

So far I'm doing good on my GPA and hoping to maintain it. I have one concern, we can't afford private schools and don't want to take student loans either. I'm keeping my options open. Thanks again and good luck to you :)

I started BCC in fall of 2005 after a year and 8 months of being on the wait list.

During the wait, I completed my AA in prenursing for the future BSN so it wasn't a waste of time. Now with My RN I can go straight to RN-BSN program at a university without any more classes!
