Hey guys,
I figured I should share what I know about the Fall 2015 application so far.
So far this is what I know:
I figured this should be a great place for us to share our anxiety about our apps and build some friendships :).
I'm a little upset about the way they're handling this situation. If we want to apply again but we still haven't heard from them that shortens our time to get ready to take the HESI. Even if I were to start studying now for the HESI, I've only got July and then take the exam in early August cause the deadline for spring is Sept. 1. Not only am I not able to take it twice, given the fact that you need to leave a 30 day period before retaking the exam. So I have to settle for the first score and hope those are good enough.
What upsets me most, is that getting into this program is like winning the lotto. Even if we put all our effort, considering everyone has different lives and puts in effort, it's not even that which determines our entrance. Having students with the same combined gpa get in and others with that same gpa left behind is something I cannot understand. How do you choose the ones that get in with the 3.6 and the ones left behind with the same 3.6. If you're accepting up to 3.6, then everyone with 3.6 should get in. I understand there might be a cap on gpa that they are only able to accept because of size limitations. But don't cut those gpa students in half, don't accept some 3.6's and leave out some other 3.6's. That just doesn't seem fair. It's like saying "we're picking 3.6's gpas, but we only have space for a few, so let's pick last names from A-E, everyone else gets screwed, sorry." That doesn't sound just. Apart from that, every year is different, you have students with lower GPAs getting in one semester and then those that put in so much effort and have higher GPAs don't make it the following semester. It just makes no sense. If I wanted to play a raffle I would. This is not a raffle. This is students careers, and students valuable time and effort after putting in hard work into achieving competitive grades. A 4.0 in science is not competitive apparently - even though that was the 60% of admittance decision. How about with the HESI, will a really high score be competitive as a 60% of admittance decision? because this time around that 4.0 did nothing, and it's not like it could be improved, a 4.0 is a 4.0. This is why it feels like a raffle.
Anyway, this cap on size is strange. Last year in the fall, they accepted 250 something students. Know this from a student that got accepted to homestead generic program. Are we left in limbo? Are they keeping information from us? If you're going to be accepting students until July, which is the other bit of information I heard from a student, then let us know that, so we can plan ahead if to wait or start looking for another program.
End of rant. Thank you for allowing me a vehicle in which to vent.
