Miami Dade College Fall 2015 RN Program

Published

Hey guys,

I figured I should share what I know about the Fall 2015 application so far.

So far this is what I know:

  1. Spring 2015 students do not need an entrance exam - let's see if they keep it this way for Fall 2015 applicants
  2. There will be a mandatory SOS Pre Nursing Bootcamp that will need to be attended upon acceptance to the program.
  3. I called advising today (7/7/14) the receptionist said I should start applying in January, but I'll confirm that once again before then.
  4. 60% sciences and 40% cumulative GPA is still the criteria as far as we know.

I figured this should be a great place for us to share our anxiety about our apps and build some friendships :).

They told me everything was ok. The problem was that there were some students that did not sign or they did not specify the program for which they were applying. They will be sending the emails first week June.

So now the anxious waiting finally begins for those results....just a little over one more month!

Hi everyone. I just graduated from the program. Generic Full-time Homestead. You are in for a ride! Just giving some advice: it is possible to work while in the program. I worked between 20-30 hours throughout the program (except in the summer semester you will want to cut your hours to less - you will take 3 4 week classes in the speciality areas (psych, peds, OB). I don't have kids, but I do have my own home where I am responsible for cooking, cleaning, etc. I was able to do things for myself - exercise 2-3 times per week and hang out with friends/family about once per week. I maintained all As and Bs in my classes. It is totally possible. You need to be organized and you need to buy a planner and NCLEX practice books so you can do hundreds of practice questions before each test (but after studying the material of course!). Buy at least 3 pairs of class scrubs and 2 clinical scrubs because you won't have time to do laundry haha. Good luck.

Thak you so much CarissaHalo and congratulations on your graduation. I have a questions for you lol. How do you like Homestead Campus? I think because of my address I will be assisting there.

Specializes in Surgical transplant.

Hi. And so what do they do with those two numbers they add? They use the general gap and multiply 40% and then the science and multiply 60% right? but after you add the two results, what does that number mean or how is it used? if you know…..

At the end you have like a general

GPA for the program. For example if after you add the two numbers you end up with 3.7 that's what you have to compete against other GPAs.

Did you figure this out on your own or did an advisor or MDC Nursing Dept. staff tell you this?

No, that's on my own just figuring out how this will work, but since they will take 40% from the general GPA that's what it means multiple your general GPA by 40% same for science GPA. This is just me trying to be busy lol. All this process and the wait is crazy.
