MGH New Grad Residency 2018

Published

Hi there! I'm just starting this board to see if anyone out there applied to either the Neuro or Multidisciplinary ICU residencies that Mass Gen is offering for new grads of 2018. I applied to both!

Hi there! I'm interested in residency programs but I haven't applied yet. Unfortunately, I do not live in Boston so I'm not sure it's feasible for me :/

Has anyone else applied to other residencies?

I was considering it, but I heard they pay very little. Have they increased their wages for new grad RNs?

I have seen the same thing about the low pay but when I was reading the job description it says that you're hired as a salaried employee. It doesn't mention that it's only a year long contract or anything like that so I was thinking (hoping) that the policy changed. If I'm even lucky enough to interview and it turns out that the salary is still super low I won't be able to take it because I would be relocating to Boston and there is no way that I'll be able to live off such a low pay!

Hello everyone! I applied and I'm from Arizona. Who knows if I'll get an interview but I'm worried about the pay too. It would be VERY expensive to live in Boston. If anyone gets hired and I do too, I'm down for living together with multiple people to help save some cash!

Just applied to their SICU. Good luck everyone!

Hey, from what I know from my friend who did this, for the first 6 months of orientation you only get $15/hr and then it bumps to $32/hr after.

I mean...for Boston that's still kind of terrible. I applied, but I don't think I'd move cross country for that.

I understand it costs a lot to train new grads and that anyone would love to gain experience at such a renown premier healthcare facility. I'm sure they have no problem attracting new grads even with this pay structure so there's probably no incentive for them to change it. That being said, I'd still be interested in going through the application/interview process and seeing how it pans out.

Yes I agree, which is why I didn't do it. I think MGH is very obnoxious and have never wanted to work there since they scammed those new grads back in 2015 for epic training. Basically what they did was hire temp nurses at $12/hr to fill in for their real nurses while they learned EPIC. Those nurses took on full assignments with the potential that they MIGHT get hired afterwards.

Of course it's totally up to you! That being said, my friend lived at home and was able to survive off this pay. I think unless you had roommates or something, this would be impossible because you can't drive to work so you'd have to live close or commute by T. My friend is like #3000 in line for a parking spot.

That's just so ****** of MGH. That's like saying we don't need a minimum wage because so many people need jobs. I can't see myself going into debt for experience after already getting my BSN. I will use the interview experience to land an actual job, not one I'm paying for the privilege of having on my resume.
