MGH Direct-Entry MSN

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

Hi! Is anyone else gearing up to apply to the MGH direct-entry MSN program beginning in 2012? I'm currently completing my pre-reqs at bunker hill community college. I'm also studying for the GRE and will be taking in a few weeks, as well as at the end of July. I'm super nervous but eager to apply. MGH is my top choice, but I'm also gonna apply to other programs in MA. I really wanna do a MSN program because I want to be a nurse practictioner. Anyone else in the same boat? :uhoh3:

Hi! Yes I am applying as well! I go to BU and I have a Health Science degree with a 3.23 gpa...what do you think my chances are? And I'm studying for the GRE too :/

Hi there - If you end up attending the MGH direct entry program, we would be in the same class! I will be starting in Sept 2012. I was accepted this year, however I deferred for a year. The application process was not that bad (although they delayed sending us results for a long time due to an increased number of applications), and the staff working there was very nice. Best of luck on the GRE and with your prereqs!

I'm applying to MGH for Sept 2012 as well. I'm taking prereqs right now an the GREs in about a week. Good luck everyone!

I didn't know anyone responded to this! Awesome!!!

I took the GRE today and being that I suck at standardized testing, I'm relatively satisfied. (Could've done better, could've done worse). What a *****, though!

I'm super eager to start applying! It's scary though, I have no nursing experience, but I just know it's what I want to do. I still have to take Microbio and A&P 2. I sent an email asking about the chemistry pre-req requirement and didn't hear back, does anybody know if an intro course with a lab will count?

Thanks for responding!!! I'll have to check back on here more often!!

I'm taking Chem 1 and Chem 2, with the second part covering organic chemistry. I still have to do A&P and Microbio. I am taking Chem 1 and Human Development this summer. I took Nutrition and Stats previously. I am considering retaking Statistics, but since I work full time I am not sure that would be a good choice. I didn't do badly in stats, just not as well as I think I could have. What other schools are you applying to?

How are you able to do that?! All the schools I've looked at for Chem you need to take 2 semesters of Basic (inorganic) before you can take organic! It's so frustrating and I want to avoid that if it's not necessary! I'm doing A&P 2 and microbio this semester. Where are you taking your pre-reqs? Stats is a *****! I managed to take it online with a teacher I knew was really good. I wouldn't retake it if you don't need to. I'm also applying to Northeastern, MAYBE simmons, but their requirements for chem are even worse! What about you? Also, how'd you do on the GRE? I thought it was so hard! I studied my butt off, took the Kaplan course, and still didn't do nearly as well as I wanted.

I am taking my prerequisites all over. Right now I am taking them at Roxbury Community College and Massasoit Community College. In the fall I will be taking them at RCC again and Quincy College.

I am applying to a lot of schools: MGH, Simmons, Northeastern, Johns Hopkins, Case Western Reserve University, Vanderbilt, Emory and I am still deciding about Duke. The application fees are going to be NUTS.

I didn't do nearly as well on the GRE as I wanted so I am retaking it at the end of August. My job has me scheduled so much right now but I am hoping that it will slow down in the next few weeks so that I have time to study. I just started the job about 5 weeks ago and my grades have taken a nosedive since i started :-/

Ah, well good luck! I hope math is your strong suit, because the new GRE was designed to make the math more complex. The verbal is about the same, and they got rid of antonyms thank god, but they added some more weird text completions. That's why I rushed to take it before they implemented the new one August 1st.

What is your job? I'm sure if you explain to them about your situation and needing to study they'd understand. I work for a Doctor's office and fortunately they are extremely accommodating when it comes to that kind of thing.

Those are really good schools! I'm only looking at Boston for now, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to apply outside of MA.

Hi Everyone!

Just found this thread...I applied to the DEN program at MGH about 4 weeks ago now, and I am anxious/excited for the process to begin! I will be taking the GRE's in November (first time). I graduated from BU in January 2010 with a Health Science degree, and shortly after graduating began working in research at MGH full-time in the Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery laboratory.

I hope this is a great way to keep one another involved throughout this process!

Good luck to everyone!

Hi Alexa! Welcome!

I'm in the same boat - planning to apply to MGH DEN (though I'm still gathering all my application materials!), and I'm taking the GRE in a couple weeks.

I've worked in research at one of the big hospitals as well as for a health research / technology firm for the past 4 years.

Thanks for starting this thread back up!

PS: Were you at the Info Session a couple Saturdays ago?
