Methodist College of Nursing 2nd Degree Program

Published

Has anyone on here been through or currently in the 2nd Degree (Accelerated BSN) program through Methodist College of Nursing? I've applied to the program for Spring 2012.

I havent could u give us more infor abt the school

The school is located in Peoria, IL and classes for the program are held on Saturdays and Sundays during the day as well as Tuesday and Friday evenings. I was just accepted to the program and was wanting to know if anyone on here is or has been through the program and has any advice.

:( Rumor is Methodist might lose their accreditation. I have spoken with 2 current students who expressed dissatisfaction/disgust with the program. I wish i could remember what exactly they said (I apologize for the lack of specifics). And, this is silly... but, honestly... Methodist is sort of the laughing stock of the local colleges. Anyway, I didn't know the bad reputation of Methodist college of nursing when I was applying for local colleges. It was only through luck that I avoided it.

Anyway... to give you something solid. I can say from personal experience that ICC's nursing program is phenomenal. The staff are rock-solid, experienced, compassionate professors. We're accredited and have excellent passing rates on the NCLEX. But! If you want that BSN--- try OSF instead.

I actually haven't heard anything bad about Methodist. In fact, I have heard all of those things you mentioned about Bradley instead. I know a year or two ago they lost their accreditation for one of their MSN programs. I already have a bachelors degree, so I'm taking the accelerated BSN route, so hopefully I made the right choice!

I will be watching your thread. I have applied to MCON and hope to get in for Fall 2012 for the accelerated program.

Also, I have not heard anything about the college potentially loosing accreditation.

:confused:Beware if you are thinking of attending this college. I have heard the same thing from students that are attending and those that have graduated. Just make sure you check your facts before enrolling. Thats a lot of money to waste, especially if the school is in jeopardy. Make sure to find out from a creditable source not by asking the college. Goodluck:nurse:

Your post is a bit generic - can you elaborate on what specifically you have heard? TIA!

Students and recent graduates told me the college has had low pass rates for the NCLEX for the past few semesters. If you need more details than that, take a trip to the college and talk to the students in the program that are to soon graduate. The best advice I can give you is to be your own best advocate. Do your research and find out everything you can before enrolling. Once again goodluck:nurse:

I graduated from MCON in August 2011 and passed the NCLEX with 75 questions. There are always good things and bad things about every program out there. You have to decide which one works best for you.

I agree ~ all programs are going to have individuals that are happy and unhappy with their program. I am doing my research on a few different programs to make sure that I am making the right choice for me.

Did you have a good personal experience at MCON?

Specializes in Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, Flight.

im in OSF's program now.. love it...come to the dark side ya'll :) ICC does put out some very good nurses, too bad they are not BSN also.

Oh i think bradley just lost/cancelled the contract with their crna program with a hospital in decatur and millikun picked it up. made more sense.
