Mercy Hospital College of Nurses LPN-RN Miami

Published

Creating this to give an insight into the process of applying to Mercy Hospital College of Nursing. I've attended the information session. I took the NLN entrance exam and got a 78% overall score. (73% is passing) I'm waiting to see whats the next step once the administrator sends the needed information. Let's see whats next.

Hi All,

I am interested in the 2 year program at Miami Mercy.~ first year LPN; second year RN.

Is anyone else out there in the same boat?

I have submitted an application and taken a test yet no word yet.

Any feedback on the program as well as on jobs thereafter would be super appreciated!

Also - I see much talk now about BSN by 2020 for major hospitals. I.e. They will NOT hire RN's in several states at major hospitals ?

Whats the word on the street about this? ?

Hey I'm currently working my way through the application process for the LPN to RN...Quite honestly you will get hired regardless if you have an ASN or BSN. Hospitals give you a timeline for which to complete your BSN. Make sure to attend an information session at Mercy as soon as you can

Hello,

I didn't do the LPN at mercy but I am currently in the LPN to RN program I'm currently in the 2nd semester out of 3 semesters.

The RN program is doable there are some courses that I have taken so far such as Medsurg 1, Pharm, and Psychology that were challenging but if you study hard then you should be able to pass. About the jobs many places now are hiring nurses with ASN or ASD RN and make you sign a contract saying that within 2 years you have to get your BSN. Even mercy has internship type program (I don't remember the official name) where they hire some graduates from the RN program to work in the hospital and I know several nurses who currently work at mercy who has gone through the RN program so it's possible. And since Mercy is apart of HCA hospital it's easier to get a job at another HCA hospital (ex: Univesity Medical Center, Aventura, Kendall Regional, and more) so there is some benefits from going to Mercy. And either way an RN is an RN and yes hospital prefer BSN prepared nurses as long as it's a goal they will hire you.

This is true the nurse residency program is called StaRN and it applies to all HCA hospitals in and outside of Florida. So dont worry about not getting hired with an ASN. A BSN is good to have because of the additional leadership classes and such. Trust me I know I was in 1 before.

Does anyone know the August start date prior to all this?

Anyone got any acceptance email or any updates?

I'm currently in the program and they best thing to do at this point is to call them because information is very limited and visitors are limited into coming into the hospital so call them to see what information they provide. Hope that helps.

How as things changed for you? Did they push back your classes or is everything as scheduled?

Our classes got pushed back by 1 week and a half so it isn't that bad. We had a week off like our Spring break and that is cancelled so we can makeup for the time we loss and I didn't mind. But if everything goes well our graduation may be pushed back to only 1-2 weeks.

Was graduation supposed to be in May?
