Hey, Im taking my Psych nursing course this semester. I am doing a paper on mental health in the community so far i have: Teen's -they can develop mental illness during drug and alcohol abuse. I have The elderly population that can develop mental illness (dementia) just to name a few.

Look at the average age of schizophrenia onset.

Elderly can have dementia from multiple causes. Alzheimer's can have an early onset as well.

OCD I believe is usually before 25 years.

Many diseases are diagnosed as teens/young adults and it's not just from drug use. Some diseases cannot be officially diagnosed until a certain age, even if symptoms are present. Also many diseases first present during these years.

I would make a list of several different diseases and then look up each ones age of onset/ likely cause. This will give you a better idea.

Also it's easy to say the homeless/alcoholics have a high rate of mental illness, but often the mental illness was present first. The alcohol/drug use is often a form of self medication.

Anyone can develop mental illness. I don't think it's confined to one certain age. My daughter developed mental health issues as a teen and she doesn't drink or do drugs.
