Mens nursing shoes?

Nurses Men

Published

I have been trying to find a decent pair of shoes to wear on the floor. My search is showing me plenty of options for women, but nothing for the male nurse. The shoes I have now are not agreeing with my back and feet!

What at kind of shoes do you guys recommend wearing for those long 12 hour shifts?

I used to wear Men's Crocs Norlin Slip-on | Comfortable Loafers | Crocs Official Site a lot when I worked the floor or Chucks with good insoles.

I currently wear Wolverines Harrison Steel-toe. After seeing a couple of people get their toes ran over by the ED cots and one with a broken toe, that's where the steel toe came in. They have great ankle support, my back doesn't hurt, my legs do get a little tired occasionally because they are pretty heavy though. I do have to pay about $120-175 for them, but I can shine them and the tread will usually last me about 9mos - 1 year.

$20 running shoes from costco. I wear em loose so I can slip them off while I chart to let em breath and just 'cause I hate shoes. I clock around 5-8 miles a shift. I feel fine after my shift with these. I like running shoes the best. My current pair are filas. I change them out every 4-6 months or so and at $20/pair I don't care. I cavi whipe the crap out of them after shift and powder them before I go home. I leave them at work and wear my regular shoes/sandals to and from. Socks make a big difference too. Get a good pair of socks that support your arches and wick moisture and you'll be golden.

I did have a pair of Oakley combat boots that I really liked to wear when I worked MedSurg. Still do boots every now and then PRN. Socks and a good fit are the keys to happy feet. I have a lot of friends who wear crocs

My worse pair of shoes was my school shoes. I couldn't find anything but these ugly white walkers. They sucked. Were hot and smelly. Never doing walkers again.

I wear Birkenstocks. Not the leather ones. There is a model that is basically similar to Crocs' material. It can be wiped down or you can even get them wet without getting messed up. Got them from Zappos.

My feet love the Birkenstocks. Tried Crocs but after they got broken in, my old dogs started to hurt. I used them now for kayaking or camping as the water does not hurt them.

OK,

So it seems like most people wear one of three kind of shoes for nursing: clogs (I currently wear Sanita clogs to work), running shoes (or what I call MRSAshoes because they are absorbent) or old man style walking shoes that you see residents wearing in nursing homes. I notice a lot of the docs my age wear comfortable "loafer" type shoes at work. Anyone do that? I'm about to pull the trigger on these: Amazon.com: Giorgio Brutini Men's Grisham Slip-On Loafer: Shoes Someone talk me out of wearing these with black scrub pants.

I would wear those only if I was not in direct pt care like when I was in management. I like them.

Thanks. Why not with direct patient care? I see people wearing running shoes all the time. They soak up far more B/U/F. Just want something I can be comfortable in all day.

Those could also leak B/U/F through the stitch but is your choice. I got a new pair of Asics running shoes baptized with piss on the first day I wore them. It was my fault as I had forgotten my Crocs at home. From that day on, I swore that I'd never ever wear running shoes as long as I was at the bedside.

If you are set on those, go for them. Is your money.
