who cleans more poop???

Nurses Men

Published

This is a prob a dumb question but who does most of the dirty work such as cleaning poop, pee, vomit, giving bed baths, etc?

Do male nurses usually do this?

Or does it not matter what gender you are?

The most poop - the nurse looking after a pt with c-diff or a lower GI bleed

The most pee - the nurse looking after a pt on lasix

The most vomit - just guessing but probably the OB nurse looking after a pt with hyperemisis

The most bed baths - well they all get baths.

Gender of nurse has never been a factor where I have worked.

male nurses never have to do any of that stuff!!! that's all women's work. we get to do all of the really clean stuff that generates glory and riches.

thats mature..

This is a genuine question.

I apologize; I did not mean to offend.

I am curious however; why would you think that nurses would perform different duties based on gender?

Sorry guys but the CNA's regardless of gender have the dirtiest job in the hospital. They get the ****** end of the stick!

Assistance with ADLs most often falls to the CNA.

I understand when non-healthcare people get wound up over elimination issues, but seriously after you clean people up a few hundred times, it is routine care.

I like to look at it like this: Imagine you are in bed, you cannot move and you have a BM. You have to sit in it until someone comes to clean you up.

Now, at that moment, who is your best friend in the world? Right, it is the person who comes to clean you up.

In general (meaning day shift), that fact cannot be argued. I work 11p-7a, we have no CNAs, no PCTs, just us LPNs and RNs ....... My experience has been you might occasionally get a female pt who'd rather have a female help her with bathroom duty, but my experience has been that this is rare, and the difference for male and female nurses in that regard is negligible......plus, it goes both ways - if you have a large unruly male patient, a male nurse can come in handy. We're all nurses ..... we do what we have to when we have to.... no big deal.

Lighten up people I thought the comment was hilarious even if it is a serious question. Only thing regarding gender that I do try to do is look for a female to do my young lady caths...if one not available I have a chap at the bedside. We tend to trade tasks to match gender in the ED. I have never given up a code brown though...unless it was to a tech that was sitting on their behind :-)

I love this question. All of us clean poop differently but equally as much!!! Haha.
