Just making a thread for Memorial Hermann's Graduate Nurse Residency program for Spring 2018, so we can keep each other updated on our process. Started filling out my application today! Super excited and totally nervous already :/
Well I think for most units it was just that one interview. Other units had two interviews. Don't quote me on this but I think the NICU people had two interviews. You kind of got a little of everything...I got a clinical question, questions talking about yourself, why you want to work there and things like that. Also, ask questions at the end, they like that.
My concern about only getting one interview is that you won't be considered for other areas of interest! I had PICU at Children's as my first choice but I was wondering if it might be better to go for general pediatric medsurge since it's probably less competitive and then get into PICU later on. What are your thoughts?
I've spoken to a nurse manager at a level 1 trauma center that hires for the residency program before about how I should go about applying. She said when she gets a new grad who applies straight into the critical care she automatically throws the application away because it's not reality. She would rather have someone say they will start at med-surg then wanting to advance. I'm not saying its not possible, I'm just saying what she said. If I personally wanted to do any sort of critical care, I would start off as Med-Surg anyways since being a new grad is tough. That is just what I was told and I'm just trying to help here! Not trying to push any buttons.

Thank you! That's very helpful!
I was wondering this too. I would LOVE to get hired on in ICU but I would also really appreciate getting any job at all at Memorial. If they were to start me off in Med Surg I would be more than happy to take it. Do they even consider you for other positions?
