Look up truthfornurses. She is going to use budget savings to produce more New grad Nurses because California has a NURSING SHORTAGE...lovely...
That website is paid for and made by Meg Whitman's political machine, to push the agenda of the the bigwigs that want to bring in nurses from overseas (India, China, etc.) and dismantle the existing protections (nurse-to-patient ratios, etc.) for nurses. I suspect that Whitman's people are going to infiltrate these message boards here at allnurses. Real nurses ought to know that despite the fact that they are conservative or liberal or whatever.. Meg Whitman is not good for nursing or patient safety. They are going to push down nursing pay and conditions to the point where less people want to be nurses, then sell the idea that "nobody here wants to do this job, so we have to bring in overseas labor".
oh my Gosh, JustMe... hardly anyone could have put it much better than that.
This truthfornurses website is almost Orwellian in its capacity for obfuscation and misleading hyperbole. It's almost as bad as the "Conservative Punk" website and associated websites that were revealed to have out of a neoconservative consulting firm in a pathetic attempt to influence youth subcultures seen as a threat to Bush-era GOP policies. The website should be honest about its origins and aims. What this website is trying to do is take advantage of great people who happen to be RNs and happen to have more conservative leanings, and get them to work against themselves and their peers. And in this sense they don't really need to win the argument- they just seek to muddle the argument enough to divide nurses amongst themselves. What nurses need to do is spread the word amongst themselves that they are united as professionals against this menace, and that they can spread this word far better than the paid political hacks who infiltrate our message boards. Somebody should trace their IP addresses, this junk is probably coming right from her campaign office or consulting agency.
California has a nursing shortage? None of the new grads can find jobs! How is producing more new grads going to help? We need to create new jobs- we already have plenty of unemployed nurses.
Not anymore. Which is why Meg's cheesy website "truthfornurses" is so absurd. I love how she plans to fund training for nurses to "ease the shortage" with the big bucks she's just sure will be available through her "welfare reform" Ha ha ha, seriously, LMAO!! I dare you to say that with a straight face, Meg! I read somewhere that it's better to be hated than to appear ridiculous. If that is true, she's over, she's done, and should give her campaiign war chest to charity.
ummm..has she actually come out and taken a look at the job market? I'm in northern California and per nurse recruiters, there are over two hundred applicants for every job. As a LVN I am now competing with RN's who can not find positions. I"m thankful to have found a job as a CNA instructor and LVN clinical instructor. Teaching is the only thing keeping me in the profession. Hey Meg! Why not fund the colleges a bit more so you don't have to trade your first born for entrance into A&P?
Meg Whitmans campaign manager Governor Pete Wilson vetoed the safe staffing and ratio bill twice. As governor Jerry Brown signd into law the very first ratio bill of two or fewer patints per nurse in ICU and other critical care units.
Thank you very much for this information. I will use it when I make my voting decisions.
fact check: we find meg whitman's attack ad fails to tell the truth.

It seems like nothing ever changes anyway. If she wins or loses it will still be the same. No jobs for new grads.
I think that a governor brown would appoint people to the Department of Public Health who would cite hospitals for violating their terms of licensure. If all hospitals actually added staff to meet the needs of high acuity patients and provided break relief nurses there would be more jobs in hospitals.
Also the boomers will be retiring soon. I think there will be another "shortage"
I want to welcome you to a satisfying career as a nurse. Please don't give up.
there are nursing shortages in some areas of CA. it's just that many people are unwilling to move to those areas. for example, if you look at the CHW website for career openings, there are many openings in merced and bakersfield. but, many people don't want to move to those areas. many want to stay in the comfort of the bay area or the LA area. and, of course, in the much urban areas, there is no shortage.
