Hi vickynurse003!!

Copy that! Uhhm.. Which aphra branch did u send ur application?..

From which place do u think they respond the quickest?.. Thank you very much. :)

Similar to Vicky I had my papers done through Melbourne as well, once the documents are scanned, these will be in their system to be shared by all the offices. Someone (I think official02?) mentioned that QLD is the fastest). My RO requested for a statutory declaration of all the names I used for my application (different variations) to be prepared for the board, I had it mailed express to SYD from MEL. 1 week later it hasn't been scanned into their system yet despite the tracking reflecting a delivered status. Lucky I needed to go into Melb anyway and dropped it from there. It was scanned the following day.

My application will be considered by the board on Dec 10 (finally after 9 mos!). Fingers crossed we get their response quickly.

For those inquiring about Monash scholarship, again I say, it is LEGIT (Monash grants it). It is done through AusOne and ELP. My advise for this matter is that if they don't grant the scholarship then YOU should decide if you still want Monash or settle for another provider. You don't necessarily have to go with their services (Monash+AussOne+ELP) just because they gave you a free orientation.

Good for you jmolina, what i'm scared is that by jan 2015 ahpra will start to ask for criminal history checks and will ask those pending applicants like us to have it which can drag our application longer..

That is worrying, any official word regarding this? How did you come to this assumption? It is usually the schools requesting for police checks. The certificate of good standing attests that our license to practice in the PH is not encumbered.

[h=2]A new approach from early 2015[/h]From early 2015, National Boards and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) will implement a new procedure for checking international criminal history. This approach has been developed after extensive consultation and feedback on international criminal history. These consultations, a report outlining the feedback received, and how National Boards and AHPRA responded to develop the approach; will be available soon.

This new approach will require certain applicants and registered practitioners to apply for an international criminal history check from an AHPRA approved supplier. The list of AHPRA approved suppliers will be published in December. The AHPRA approved supplier will provide the international criminal history check report to the applicant or registered practitioner, and directly to AHPRA.

AHPRA is trialling the approach for twelve months to evaluate and see if it will achieve its objective of balancing public protection without unnecessarily delaying the registration process for applicants and registered practitioners.

[h=2]Who will be impacted by the changes?[/h][h=3]New applicants[/h]

  • All new applicants seeking registration as health practitioners in Australia, if they:
    • declare a criminal history outside Australia, and/or
    • have lived in another country/countries other than Australia for six consecutive months or more since the age of 18.

[h=3]Registered practitioners[/h]Currently registered practitioners who:

  • are seeking to renew their registration or applying for a change in registration type, if:
    • there has been any change to their criminal history in a country/countries other than Australia since their last declaration to AHPRA.

[*]at any time of the year, inform the relevant National Board that they have been:

    • charged with an offence outside Australia that is punishable by a sentence of 12 months imprisonment or more, or
    • convicted of, have pleaded guilty to or are the subject of a finding of guilt by a court for an offence, outside Australia, that is punishable by imprisonment.

[h=3]Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition (TTMR) applicants[/h]

  • Practitioners who have just registered under Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition (TTMR), if they:
    • declare a criminal history outside of Australia; and/or
    • have lived in another country/countries other than Australia for six consecutive months or more since the age of 18

The list of AHPRA-approved suppliers of international criminal history checks will be published in December.

[h=2][/h]I dont know if im allowed to post that in here, but yeah it's in ahpra site and my friend who did web inquiry few days back was being replied and ask about if she already did the criminal history check.

So i was wondering if everyone still waiting for LOE knew or has been informed by their RO's about this? Anyone? while i'm waiting for my RO's reply about this.

It's basically easy for PH based,NBI clearance would suffice and i know getting one/renewing isn't that hard anymore but for those non PH based it's additional time needed to get one e.g. SG PCC will take 3weeks.

The thing is it's sad and frustrating, ahpra changes its requirements/assessment policies/rules etc.faster than completing application processes.

Awww... It is likely that all of us will be affected regardless. If you get your LoE, you do the BP and afterwards, reapply with all the credentials needed.

I'll raise the issue with them if I am asked for it. Entry to AUS requires a police check from the country of origin, I don't know what investigative powers does AHPRA's suppliers have to investigate matters in a sovereign nation other than Australia.

Frankly speaking, I think it's just bleeding pockets out of international health practitioners. Local Police Check for visa + Federal Police check for Aus + Certificate of Good standing, what else is missing?

@vickynurse003: I have 5 years experience but not sure if i will get accepted for the Monash scholarship since I know someone with a better experience but didn't get in. Not sure what their basis are but I'll just pass my docs when my LOE will be released, hoping it will be soon :) But for Plan B, I am looking at IHNA or ACN :)

The news on a new procedure for checking international criminal history by AHPRA is something I pray will not affect our already pending applications. When we passed our docs, we have already included our NBI clearance hoping that will be enough for now. Let's all continue praying guys. Prayer can move mountains :)

On criminal history check:

When I applied to AHPRA, I did not send any local police check (NBI or Police Clearance). I am aware that most of you here attached one with AGOS just like what I read while preparing for my documents. But I read that form over and over again and I didn't read any requiring such. Moreover, they didn't ask me to send one. With changes on and about to be introduced, I realized that it may be this time that they will require one. I am doing the guesswork and I think that the only "supplier" to do such as a person who lived and worked here in PH since age of 18 is NBI. Well, question is, how will AHPRA want that criminal check to be arranged? Direct courier from NBI to AHPRA? I just hope that they just require a certified copy, less cost and faster. Perhaps, they will also require a federal police in Australia as additional "supplier". I think some schools for BP require such also, it may hit two birds with one stone.

Well, not an issue of avoiding such. But, the cost that may incur and a big possibility of delays can be a huge concern.

@ jmmolina

so are you going for the monash scholarship? has someone actually got in the scholarship and opted out for all other services?

thanks!

Hi Yuitefy,

Do they list anywhere the requirements or criteria on how to get in?

Do any of the bridging programs offer any post-IRON job opportunities do you know? I was thinking if my clinical placement is regional maybe I would get more chance of getting a job offer after completion.

With the criminal checks hoping that it is NBI who will be the approved supplier. It makes sense it would be NBI, but who knows.
