Meeting AHPRA requirements as a International Trained Nurse from the Philippines

Published

Guys, any update? No LOE still?

Good day everyone! any updates on our LOE's? Ive passed my application this MARCH 2014, I do hope that there would be a result this month since my CO emailed me before that AHPRA is due this SEPT for a result on my application. If not, I'll be considering the 1 year BSN next year, or maybe apply for the CAP in NZ. Ive been told that the process is faster for the CAP in NZ.

Anyone who has the same plans?

God bless everyone.

Hi. May we know the exact response by your CO regarding the September date that you are saying? Thank you.

I have also plans for NZ, BTW.

NZ's CAP is definitely a lot faster. In fact, my colleague's application to undergo CAP was approved on the same day all her requirements were completed (last week of May 2014). She then flew to NZ on July 21, 2014 to begin her CAP (less than 2 months since the approval). We initially planned to undergo CAP together in the same agency but due to financial constraints, I had to back out. Otherwise, I would have been there taking the CAP already. :(

Hi, can anyone enlighten me about what to do so i can comply with criterion 2, 3 and 8? my application is currently in the second stage and the nmba is asking me to submit documentary evidence for criterion 2, 3 and 8...

I understand that i would need to go back to my educational institution for these requirements but just i dont know who externally regulates our school coz i came from a state university and i was informed before that state universities operates independently... and with regards to criterion 8, will a letter or a certification that i have successfully completed an assessment for medication management and pharmacology be enough or do i also have to provide a course outline for this as well?

thank you... i hope someone will extend some help...:)

*anyway i wasn't aware of this IQNM until the national board emailed me last Thursday... I applied in Victoria and my CO there didn't ask for it. that's why i thought the requirements are still the same like last year.

As far as I know, state universities in the Philippines are still under CHED (except UP which has its own Board of Regents, thus, they are autonomous from CHED). So as for your regulating authority, you can go to the CHED office of your specific region where your school is located and request for your document to be sent directly from their office to AHPRA (you can download the template provided by AHPRA online and give it to CHED for the correct format of the document needed). As for your school documents, your dean should be able to help you on that. I'm sure they have already processed the same requests from other applicants before you. Criterion 8 is for your pharmacology being part of the curriculum and the dean should know how to properly provide the document indicating that you have taken the subject as part of your curriculum, and of course, with her signature and all other appropriate documentary proof (school's seal, etc.). Remember that all these documents should be sent by the concerned entities (CHED, your school) directly to AHPRA as anything sent by you will not be accepted.

Hey guys,

I've been reviewing the twitter chat on Sept 5 (#ahpraqanda) and I found this very interesting post:

If 150 had already been approved then the queue had begun to move. Let's keep our hopes up and pray that this waiting will come to an end soon. Don't forget to share when you get yours. :D

This is quite interesting! If the ball is rolling then we should pray our much-awaited LOEs are released very soon. I'm slightly confused, however, because I also saw one of AHPRA's reply-tweets saying "decisions are communicated to applicants within 2-3 weeks".

Mar 2014 here. I am under the impression that the decision to refer PH to the BP was done only recently when the national board convened. Under that assumption, I am hopeful that we will be getting our LoEs soon.

Here's an interesting conversation I read on AHPRA's twitter:

From @macintosh_06: Is there a scenario where Philippine-trained nurses may not be referred for BP?

From @AHPRA: Filipino applicants with subsequent qualifications that meet all requirements will be registered

AHPRA's reply was posted 9/12/14. So, it's possible to bypass BP under this new framework as long as the applicant meets criteria 2&3 (which are the ones in question for Philippine nurses) provided, of course, all the other criteria are met?

yes we met all other criteria aside from criteria 2 and 3. and we wont be able to meet that because AHPRA already decided on that. accdg to them, based on "RESEARCH" Philippine Nurses do not meet criteria 2 and 3. so dont be so hopeful that you will bypass BP. just be thankful that Philippine nurses can still obtain a registration after that. and those 150 approved registration are either those people who came from uk or those who just finished doing BP in some states. they have not released any LOE for Indian and Philippine Nurses as of the moment.

May 07 - Receipt of application at AHPRA QLD

May 26 - Receipt of Certificate of Registration from PRC

August 18 - Confirmation of receipt of IQNM at NSW Office

August 19 - Confirmation that all information regarding my application are received

Latest update from CO:

It is likely that your application will go for consideration by the Board in late October or November, as we work through the large number of applications.

Unfortunately I am unable to confirm this timeframe, however please be assured we are doing our best to process all applications as quickly as possible.

I was also thinking that the 150 approved registration were mostly those who completed bridging program and some were those UK Diploma ANMAC approved nurses pre-Feb 2014.

@Lordcroft: For a number of unlikely reasons, maybe. I imagine that a dual citizen who studied nursing in another country but decided to practice in the PH for any other reason (than money I suppose) might pass but PH-based nursing education excludes us from being granted registration because AHPRA/NMBA determined in their findings that the Philippine education accreditation system fails to meet the Australian standards hence, BP. Secnario 2: Juan dela Cruz decided to "upgrade" his qualifications with a NZ BSN, that would make things very different in the eyes of AHPRA.

Aye, I also received a tweet stating that no PH-educated candidate application has been granted an LoE and that applications are being prepared. Looking at the bright side, we now have a time frame, something that had frustrated us before Sept 5 Twitter chat. For those of us still in the PH, enjoy your families and friends, life is about to change for you as soon as that LoE arrives; strategize as early as now on what to do after the BP, what is your next move if you find it difficult to find a 457 sponsor. Just think at least (for the time being), you don't have to worry about a visa that is ticking while you wait for AHPRA. Once all of these are in motion, there is no turning back. :)

Well, if you get qualification/s outside the Philippines which is recognized by the Board to be similar to their accreditation system then give it a go.

Makes me wonder who will be the first LOE recipient here?

Please don't be shy, if you have it now. Tell us.
