Hey everyone. I just sent off all of my paperwork to take my MedSurg Certification exam. I'm kind of nervous. I'm not planning to take a review course for the exam due to the lack of courses available in my area. I plan on studying from my medsurg text........
Does anyone have any advice on the exam? Has anyone taken it?
My hospital gives you a 5% raise once you become certified in your specialty area. Does your hospital provide extra incentives to get certified? My hospital also pays for me to take the exam... if I pass that is....
Thanks,
Tiger

:loveya:Hi,
I am a med-sug nurse with 4yrs of experience in PA. I took this exam conducted by Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN) in May and I PASSED it. My work offered 2 day review course, that basically reviewed all the systems. And I did reviewed the NCLEX CDs and the med-surg book. Some questions were hard about medication that I have given & some are common sense & some are experience based. But more questions were in cardiac and pulmonary. Overall I didn't think it was hard.Because the economy /recession all our reviews got pushed back for 6months...Mine is coming up in March.I don't know how much of raise i am going to get. They reimbursed the exam fee. All our nurses are happy to have a job for now.Hope this helps.

I passed the AMSN certification 2 yrs ago. I didn't study, thought the test was fairly easy. And they notified me that I only missed one question on the test. Just hit the spots that you're not familiar with and you'll do just fine.

I also took the AMSN exam two years ago, I did not study but have been an RN for 10 years. I should have reviewed a little but really h ad no idea where to start>
Cool thanks for the replies.... I'm hoping it won't be too hard.... Hopefully working on the medsurg floor from he** the past 3 years blessed me with lots of knowledge. haha

I just checked into this and will apply in a couple of years. I have been out for 4 years and that break, even after 20 as a m/s RN, put me back at square one. I'm not even sure I'll get raise. I just want it for my own satisfaction. If money comes with it though, I won't turn it down!

I bought the CCRN by accident, if I study that can I pass the medsurg certification exam?
