Update: I got offered an interview with the surgical CVICU! What were the general types of nursing questions? Were they more behavioral or something like what would you do if patient had low BP, etc? @ThefutureRN

Congrats!! You’re gonna do great, they asked me about my shadowing experience, a time a made a mistake in clinical and asked one clinical question which was if I had a post op surgery patient what are 3 things you will do for them! They also asked how I dealt with patient death in the past. Then I had a second interview with a floor nurse and that interview was all behavioral like why do you want to work ICU and my interest in cardiology and explain a time you had conflict with co worker. Hope this helps!!

Hey everyone! I have been reading through this thread and was wondering if it is too soon for me to apply for the new grad residency. I am graduating this August with a direct entry MSN degree and am hoping to get a job in the SICU or CVICU. Should I apply now?

Also, has anyone trying to land an ICU position applied to other hospitals? I live in Maryland so would love to work at suburban hospital, but have not seen any new grad ICU positions there. What other hospitals have you all applied to?

Hey! When I interviewed the nurse manager said they were hiring for July 2021 start date. I would still apply and they could give you a later start date or tell you to apply again during the next application cycle.

Thank you! Just sent in my application today ?

What exactly is the battery test? Is it like a behavioral/personality test, or situational questions you type out a response to?

The battery test is more a behavioral/personality test I would say. It is all multiple choice with things you do and don't agree with (I.e: strongly agree, agree, somewhat agree, etc.). Some of it did ask you multiple choice questions about patients and families, but it was not difficult!

Who all is applying/accepting an offer and from out of state?

hey, does anyone know how u can tell if u passed or failed the battery test? My application status still stays recieved and it’s been over a week. I’m thinking I failed it since I know people who applied after me and they recieved an email asking for preferences.

Reach out to HR and ask them if there is an update

I received an email from Georgetown about preferences! I'm not from DC, and looking at rent I'm wondering if it's even worth it to be a nurse there due to how high rent is. Does anyone know if it's even possible to "make it" on our salary or if we'll be able to afford a 1 bedroom apartment near these hospitals?

I'm actually not from DC as well (from NY) and got a position for a New Grad Fellow/Residency at Inova (basically a hospital system right across the river from DC) and the pay is slightly higher at 32/hr. It's a great hospital system, maybe you might want to try applying there also. Apartments in that Northern Virginia area/DC suburbs are a little cheaper and taxes are lower in Virginia. Definitely still expensive though. Might want to look for a Studio.
