medications: take home packs

Published

what are your thoughts?

take home packs????????? what do ya think?

Ok, so when cheerfuldoer or one of the other nurses on this BB build their hospital, and we all go work for them, THIS is going to be THE standard for our all-:nurse:-ran ER! :D

Ahhh, the percocet and vicodin bowl. Definately can't forget the lunch bag and work notes.

Hummm, I dunno, but maybe we could just add a drive-thru for identified drug seekers. That way, they come in once, tell the clerk or triage nurse that they really only want ___ (fill in drug of choice here), and they can get a standing order for that med. NExt time they need some, they just drive right up to the ever-so-convenient drive thru window and place their order. Yeah, it'll be just like McDonalds, only with ambulances and dying people instead of a coke and a smile! :chuckle

Sounds like a good idea!

if it weren't for medicaid my son would have had no health insurance while I went through nursing school............ He doesn't have any LT problems. but well baby visits being paid for were a plus.

There ARE some honest medicaid seekers out there...........

We never give percocet to go. We do give vicodin 5/500, 6 to a pack as the strongest narcotic. Sometimes for back pain complaints we give flexeril, but if they are frequent flyers with the same complaint over and over again, maybe they will get ultracet, anaprox, naprosyn or something mild. We used to give out 60 and 120cc bottles of tylenol with codeine, phenergan with codeine and full course antibiotics but now only 8-12 hour doses with a script for the rest.

P.S. First time poster, great site.

Oh just give them a menu and let them order their own

Keep It Short Simple

Is this along the same lines of a vending machine in the lobby? You could go up, drop in a quarter, get your Vicodin, Percocet, whatever it is in your lot of the woods... it would also include a little sack lunch and a cab voucher. Not that I'm the first one to suggest this. :)

You would have to keep a basket of quarters next to the machines.

"bushie" is the only president thus far who has taken an interest in furthering the nursing profession by increasing money for education, by furthing advanced practice nursing agendas, and is currently attempting to tackle the liability issue that is costing us doctors in this nation - as a medical professional - you should be 100% behind that.

Well, no, actually that's not true. Bill Clinton's mom was an RN, and he was very interested in promoting nursing.

Here's one example: "The Labor, Health and Human Services and Education Appropriations bill for 1998 (HR 2264) was signed into law by President Clinton (PL 105-78) on November 13 and includes a total of $293.3 million in funding for health professions education, $1 million more than in FY '97. Specifically, $65.6 million will be allocated to NEA programs and the NINR will receive $63.5 million. ANA is pleased that funding for nursing education will be increased by $300,000 over last year's funding level. The Appropriations measure passed the House on November 7 by a vote of 352 to 65 and the Senate on November 8 with a vote of 91 to 4."

So, you see, even the democrats have some redeeming qualities.

Lets be serious. The only reason Bill Clinton was interested in nurses is the fact that the vast majority of them are chicks. (Yeah baby!!!......Oh Hi Hillary, No! No!, I was just helping the girls out with a very important...uh... nursing education fund bill....yeah, that's it. )

:chuckle

Why do you suppose I was so interested into going into nursing

and back then the nurses wore their whites and caps, of course mini skirts were the rage then and nurses were wearing some pretty short skirts

I loved it

On my planet the pyxis is in the waiting room. It takes cash, checks, foodstams, wic cards. It saves giving a million dollar work up to people who are just garden variety drug addicts.
