medications: take home packs

Published

what are your thoughts?

take home packs????????? what do ya think?

i don't agree w/ em.......you can't stock enough to give what you need to everyone - then some are stuck goin home w/o meds....

i think someone needs to buy an epic pharmacy that is open 24 hours and make some dough...... did they forget people need meds during the nite too?!?!?

;)

maybe bring back the old time outpatient pharmacy in the hospital.

I worked at an Indian Health Service hospital where we (attempted) to give out take home packs of condoms. GREAT IDEA, FEW TAKERS THOUGH

They were out in triage along with "COLD/FLU" Take Home Packs--

--which contained Motrin, Sudafed, Tylenol, and other OTC meds the patient could leave from triage if they took a pack.

Nice thought athomas91 but remember the majority of people up this late visiting the local ER exchanging pleasantries probably aren't going to pay their ER bill let alone have the cash for an RX.

And, MAGIK GIRL quote, "maybe bring back the old time outpatient pharmacy in the hospital".

Can't really do that either it's a serious conflict of interest. Dr's. would end up getting pressure from the suits to write more scripts in order to bring in more revenue - sad days we live in.

:o sad indeed!

medicaid pays for those scripts though.... and G*d knows enough people have that...

As an ED nurse who recently went to an ED on a Saturday night (I was hurting!) for back pain. I can tell you I was so happy to see that little bottle of 6 percocet at discharge. We can all rant and rave about midnight drug seekers, (I do it to) but keep in mind, it could be you.

Specializes in ER, ICU, L&D, OR.

Hello athomas91

Just think if people didnt have medicaid to help them when needed then there would be absolutely no reimbursement at all, not every one can have Blue cross blue shield.

When Bushie was governor he cut medicaid reimbursements and coverage drastically, Now Texas ranks Second in the Nation for have the highest percentage of Empty mouth and hungry people. And then you consider Texas has to be one of the richest states in the union.

I wont go farther on this, Just enough to say

athomas 91, you are offline and bigoted in your medicaid comments, and obviously you are a Republican

teeituptom - i am not going to stoop to a level where i feel it neccesary to cut down my fellow nurses as you have so quickly done - but i will say this -

you don't know me - you don't know where i live - and you don't know the type of pt's i see - so i believe that I may not be the "bigot" here

as a matter of fact - i am republican - not that that has anything to do with the discussion - i am very much in favor of medicaid - but the system is abused in such a multitude of ways that it makes it nearly impossible for it to work correctly - am i against the system - NO - am i in favor of improving it - YES

the area i work in has very few pharmacies and most close at ridiculous times - that was where my comment for a 24 hr pharmacy came from

my comment about medicaid was due to MY experience in not having many patients w/o some type of insurance whether it be medicaid, medicare or an independent insurance -

perhaps a little more discussion and understanding would benefit this board rather than judgemental namecalling.

and on a whole different matter - do a little research into the money that texas has to sink every year into illegal immigrant care (medical, legal and otherwise) and perhaps you will see where the money goes.......... (notice i said illegal not legal immigrants before i get my head chewed off again)

texas and everyother southern border states spends over 19 billion dollars taking care of those who do not pay into the system - that is a 19 billion dollar expense that we cannot recuperate - so before you start slamming bushie - look at the numbers he had to work with

as well - "bushie" is the only president thus far who has taken an interest in furthering the nursing profession by increasing money for education, by furthing advanced practice nursing agendas, and is currently attempting to tackle the liability issue that is costing us doctors in this nation - as a medical professional - you should be 100% behind that.

Very nicely put.

I agree that name calling and PC judging is a pain in the ass. Disagree, agree or don't care - don't be name calling or trying to get a rise out someone. Wow, third grade was how long ago? "You!, You!, Republican!", ow that one really stings.

thank you flyinged.....

i would much rather discuss the issues - perhaps we could all put our minds where our mouths are and find resolve for some major health issues.
