Hi Everyone--
I'm applying to the Medical University of Ohio GEMINI program. It's a Direct Entry MS 2-year (5 semesters) program. Am I crazy to consider moving to Toledo from California?
Reputations I think change depending on who you are talking to. I have a relative (actually 2) that are working with/for UT and it is not the "great place" people always talk about but what place is? Every place has its issues.
MCO reputation must be better than it used to be......lived there all but 9 years of my life and am moving back hopefully this summer. I would not go to MCO for care but hey that is my opinion only based on part experience and part rumor.:chuckle

I would not go to MCO for care but hey that is my opinion only based on part experience and part rumor.:chuckleIt has been a while since you have been to MCO correct? Because I work there and think that the care we give our patients is very good. We always try to do the best job we can. As far as rumors go, I have heard bad things about St. V's, Luke's and the others too. I do respect your right to have an opinion, but I just wanted you to know, that there are some of us at MCO who do try to do right by our patients.
My boyfriend's physician in Toledo told him specifically NOT to go to MUO for medical school. I don't think this is because it's a bad facility, however. I think it's because my boyfriend was applying to places like Mayo, Northwestern, U Chicago, Ohio State, and Case. MUO is a jump from those choices.
I am accepted to the Gemini Master's In Nursing Program. I am wondering what to do about an apartment either in a nice area like Perrysburg, Ohio or saomewhere closer to the Campus. I know the answer deadline for those that were accepted is June 1, 2006. Without flaunting it, can those of you who have been accepted, check in here and we may set-up a separate forum site to discuss the issues that face us prior to the Aug. 16, 2006 discussion meeting and the start of school on Aug. 21, 2006?

Count me in! I've been bugging Gemini06 to death with all my questions. I would love to get to know everybody and plan
the next two years together. I'm sorry the school hasn't done more to help this process along. Let's take the lead Mary and hit the ground running next fall!:welcome:
My Dad obtained a copy of the Schedule of classes for 2006-2007. There is an orientation on Wed. Aug. 16, 2006, and classes start Monday, Aug. 21, 2006. Finals are Dec.11-15th. Students must have lliability insurance and all Heath requirements (which I take to mean that you are updated on all of your shots). The contact person to get the schedule is Deb Pasch, secretary at 419-383-5858. I assume the sclass schedules and any financial aid packages will come out by the end of June, 2006, as you have until June 1 to accept a position for the Fall 2006 program.
I am thinking that we should start another thread posting. But I am not sure of what the heading will be so that other nursing students doing a search will be able to access the new thread. Should it be 2006 Gemini class at MUO, or something similiar.
I also received a list of four apartment complexes to contact for housing. I have two cats so I am considering a 1 BR unless I can find a room mate who tolerates cats. Obviously, I would pay the extra monthly cost for the cats. Mary C.
May I direct those of you that have been accepted for the Fall class of 2006 to the MSN/GEMINI Program at MUO - U of Toledo to go to a new thread which we have just started for getting to know each other. The thread is "Medical University of Ohio GEMINI 2008". We hope to post information that will be valuable to each other and that will eliminate the need for each of us to re-invent the wheel as to locating apartments there by MUO, start of classes, etc. and maybe a get together ahead of the orientation scheduled for Aug. 16, 2006. Classes will start on Monday, Aug. 21, 2006.

I wouldn't be too concerned with the reputations of UT vs. MUO. MUO is not a bad school by any means but it's not up there with the big players in Ohio. Having UT's name attached to MUO will do nothing to tarnish your degree. Make your decisions based on the program(s). You may be missing out on the school that will truly be your best fit because of something superficial.
Oh, and I just found this. It may interest some people; it was news to me:
