Hey one can dream! We had a chem professor that lasted 3 semesters because people didn't like her and didn't want to study. I can say for her that she was aproachable and she did cover everything on her exams in class (she even made her overheads available for students to copy so they didn't really even have to take notes). This semester is this professors second semester so she is still considered a visiting professor and NOOOOO tenure. If I cannot make a difference in how she is teaching or not teaching us... I will just have to tar and feather her at the end of the semester right?
I hope that your school takes care of the situation, at least it looks like there is hope that they will. Hang in there and good luck
Wow, mine does too! I love the guy but sheesh.OntheRoad, hope you wound up with a better mark than you thought!!
I have an exam on Monday and don't know it yet but can't for the life of me get into studying. I need to get away from this computer!!
Hey there stranger, good to see you
I love the class and I am doing very very well. Some of the students are a pain in the XYZ when it comes to lab but other than that I should get an A.
You better get to studying....I better get there too, we have hard weekly lab quizzes and need to study thoroughly for them.
Good luck and hang in there
Hey do any of you have to do a paper/presentation for micro? And if not, can you pop me an idea or two regarding what bacteria I should choose? I have no clue and need to get cracking since this semester ends in about a month and a half.
Yeah, I am doing Group A steptococcus (streptococcus pyogenes) which is Necrotizing fasciitis (sp?)...flesh eating bacteria!
I would just go through the textbook and look under "Pathogenic Gram-Positive Cocci and Bacilli." If you have the same book as me, then it is chapter 19. There's a bunch of diseases and bacteria, etc. There's probably more somewhere else in the book, but that's all I know for now.
I posted this in the student ast area...However it applies more specifically to Micro. Has anyone worked on this case study? I'm guessing syphilis+Hiv...
Anyone want to make guesses or hints
TIA
Immediately after you finished the physician's assistant program you took a job at a free clinic in
the heart of the City. You always wanted to help society, especially those in the direst of life's
circumstances. During your first week, you met Dwight, a 53-year-old overweight white man
with several obvious problems. Dwight's feet are cracked and blistered and he has three
infected toenails. (He tells you he has been homeless for various periods during the last 10
years). There are seeping sores in the folds of his wrists and under his arms. His gums are
bleeding. Dwight is here because he has been greatly confused over the past eight months and
it seems to be getting worse. He has episodes of ranting and raving. He reports ''feeling crazy''
and being very scared. His friends brought him to the clinic and are waiting outside.
The supervising physician quickly joins you in the examining room. Together you examine
Dwight thoroughly and make a plan for addressing his pressing needs for wound care. The
physician starts asking him about his health history. Dwight reveals very little, saying his
memory is very bad. But he talks a lot about his past sexual exploits.
1. The doctor speaks with you in the hallway. He tells you that mental illness is very common
among the homeless population. Dwight needs a thorough psychiatric evaluation. The
doctor is fairly sure that some of Dwight's neural symptoms are caused by a sexually
transmitted infection. Which one? Caused by which microorganism?
2. If the blood test comes back positive, does it mean that Dwight can transmit the disease to
others? Explain.
3. Should Dwight be treated with antibiotics to remedy his neural symptoms? Why or why not?
4. The patent's blood test came back positive. For what other infectious disease should he now
be tested?
5. The doctor tells you to expect to see more of these cases in the future. But a coworker, who
graduated from nursing school 10 years ago, tells you that this disease (especially its later
forms) is relatively rare and is decreasing in incidence. Who is right?
