$33, 000 for Medical Assistant program

Worth it or no? The local LPN program is only 12, 000 but hard to get in, and I'd rather avoid all the icky stuff. I want to work in the health field but also as a "receptionist" so I find that being a CMA fits me perfectly.

Wait you really mean it's $33,000? No, don't do it research other programs in your area. And think about it's almost 3x's as much as an LPN program......

Yes it is. $33, 000 is so much money. It's from Vatterott college..

You have a good chance of being around icky stuff as a medical assistant. That's the "back office" part of the job. Some specialties more than others. I'd also look into your state's laws regarding MAs. Some, like mine don't require any specific training as long as the doctor is willing to train and supervise you. Perhaps you could look into something like Medical Billing, Coding, or transcribing.

HUGE MI$TAKE!!! Do not pay $33k for a job that will not pay you that much a YEAR for a salary!!

What a rip-off! You local community college probably has a similar program for about a tenth the cost.

NOT worth it.You will not make enough money to be worth having to pay $33,000. I'm a medical assistant and all of the girls I work with went to a tech school that didn't cost more than probably 5,000.

I will spend about that much for both my BSN and MSN combined. For a medical assisting position that won't pay anywhere near that amount in a year, it's not worth it.

. . .is an incredibly overpriced program and not worth the money. Look elsewhere.

Holy shmoly!! That's more then my BSN program at a private University!!

When I did my MA program 10yrs ago it was like $4000 or $5000. Try a community college!! Don't do a $33,000 program especially an MA program there is no growth.

Good Luck!!!

Specializes in Pediatric/Adolescent, Med-Surg.

The price tag on my RN program was only 20k, which I did not pay a dime for as the hospital picked up the whole bill

My BSN cost 10k and my job paid for it. My ASN was around 8 or 9k. Please don't go to this school and pay 33k for a job that you probably won't even make 20k a year in. I could be wrong with the salary but don't pay 33k for this program.

Thanks for the responses! I'm definitely NOT paying that much. My local university has a BSN program for 20k! Vatterott is crazy!
