Med Surg 1 Retake

Published

So long story short, I messed up last semester really badly. The pandemic really messed me up physically and mentally I bombed every exam and I ended up withdrawing from Med Surg 1. I'm currently retaking it and the first exam I got a 58 which I was very baffled to see so I stepped up made a few changes to my ethics and techniques then on the second exam I received a 90 and third exam a 82, each exam is worth 10% and students need a average of 78 on the objective grades. However, coming up really soon is a HESI exam worth 10% and in the end the final which is worth 25% I'm really stressing because I'm so borderline (current grade is about a 76) and I do not want to fail because I'll be kicked out of the program, does anyone have any helpful tips for me? Of course the number one priority is studying but for the HESI I'm really scared because I was viewing a couple of practice exams and theres a bunch of terms that I don't remember learning at all. I would also like to know what next steps are in the case that I do end up failing. Thank you for your time, any response is appreciated.

Does your school have a study skills/ test taking counselor to help? Sometimes schools have someone who can help with test taking skills directed at how nursing tests are and have nursing study groups. My math shows you currently at 76.6 %. You certainly have improved from your first test! I applaud you for that!

The final is worth 25% you said. Make sure you meet with your instructor during office hours to review your plan for studying for that. With regard to the HESI, everyone is in the same boat on these tests. If you haven't heard the term, probably no one else in your student group has. Best wishes for a great semester and great final.

PS the numbers you gave above only add up to 65% of a grade.

I have no idea honestly, I’ve reached out to the director or student services and haven’t received a email back yet I’m gonna message the dean looking for valuable sources today. Yeah that is 76.6 is my average test score however, I have a 75.8 in the class currently because I’ve messed up on a couple of quizzes. They’re 1% each and I got a 100. 30. 50.70 and 100 on all of the quizzes. 5% of my grade, HESI which is next week is worth 10%, my regular exams are listed above already and the final is 25% this equals to 85% of my grade and I need a average of 78 in total for homework and non objectives grades to be added.
