Nurses Stress 101

Published

Does anyone else struggle with eating healthy while at work? I barely have time to cook at home, and most of the time I end up eating food from the cafeteria (not really a fan as it's overpriced), or random things from the vending machine. I kept on thinking about ordering healthy cooked foods and having them delivered to my house as needed. So when its time to head out, I simply grab a bowl and warm it up when it's time to eat. My friends thought that this would be a decent side-hustle. What do you guys think? Would you pay for such deals?

Thanks guys for all replies! Definitely going shopping this weekend and re-thinking my methods of preparing and packing meals to take to work. Awesome :).

There are several services that do this so you would have to have a good angle to be competitive - check out Susan's healthy gourmet

Yeah, I would require something special or different to deal with competition. Ok, back to the drawing board.

I have a Thermos lunch bag and have lots of those very small rubbermaid containers that might only have four ounce capacity. I put healthy things inside them, nuts, blueberries, hummus etc.

I also have a really good salad container that has divided bowls so you can keep dressing and the crunchy things like seeds or croutons separate from the rest of the salad before you eat it. Those sachet packs of tuna come in handy when mixing with a salad, or you can put beans or cottage cheese on top and it's quite a substantial meal.

I leave the healthy eating for home. When I am at work or in class, I pig out. And my god-like metabolism lets me get away with it!

With Pokemon Go! out there, you can pig out as well and burn the calories off by hunting down those Pokemon.

I usually make extra when I cook at home, and use leftovers for work, along with grab'n'go snacks like fruit, hard boiled eggs, nuts, and cheese.

My hospital's caf closes at 1830; I work 1500-2330, so usually don't have time to get there before they close. It's insanely expensive anyway. I mean I could get Chipotle or pizza from this amazing local places (all fresh, Neapolitan style fired in an 800° brick oven....drool!!) for the price I'd pay for hospital food.

What I do struggle with is the goodies people bring. We get a lot of tokens of appreciation from families...Lots of times, said tokens are rich in fat, sugar, and deliciousness. I'm watching carbs partly for weight loss, partly because I had gestational DM so am at high risk for developing type II. I get around that (sometimes) by keeping some of my own sugar free, grain free treats.

I actually do not mind eating unhealthy foods. My biometrics and lab work have greatly improved over the past year, and I gradually lost enough weight to fall into the normal BMI range, all via eating value-menu fast food several times a week.
