MDS Coordinator salaries

Published

I know I have asked this before, but people change so fast on here I thought I would see what the response was like in 2006.

So, if you don't mind

1. How much to you make as MDS Co (or if you're a DON/ADON - how much is your MDS person paid). I make $21/Hr and thinking that is not enough!

2. What part of the country do you live in. I live in Indiana.

3. How much experience do you have w/ MDS. I have 6+ years.

Thank You

Nascar Nurse

I work in Kansas, do MDS for two LTC's...(about average of 50+ residents, 4-5 Medicare A's). I make 18.50, Im an RN, with NO BENEFITS. All you that think ur pay is bad.......

Wanna move to COLORADO and I have 5 buildings that could utilize your talent for a lot more than you are making.

Specializes in Med-Surg ,Hospice & Long term care.

;)I am a new RNAC the facility is training me, the RNac I am replacing is moving into the DON position and the DON is moving into the Administrator position a lot of movement going on at my work place, it is a Long term care facility. Anyway since I don't have experience they are starting me at 23.00/hr then after 6 months 24.50/hr and then at the end of my first year to 26.00/hr. I am okay with that for now. But I am planning on getting so dam good at this job that I can jack that pay up in the next couple of years. I live in PA I am not sure what other RNAC's in PA are making

Specializes in LTC.

Hello,

I'm an LVN in Texas. I have almost 10 years experience in MDS's and am currently employed with a non-profit organization as an MDS Specialist. Which basically means I over see the MDS process over their 2 buildings. I'm currently salaried, making over $56,000/year. I say I make over that, because at the end of the year, we get bonuses in lieu of raises. I have full benefits and the organization I work for has recently taken over payment of our insurance premiums, (for salaried employees only). I read through all the entries and I see that as an LVN, I'm making fairly good money. But, I'm not truly happy here. The organization is great, I just want to move back to Austin. Before I left my other facility, I was offered a similar salary, but was going to be expected to take on the role of ADON on top of the MDS Coordinator title I held. Now, I kinda wish I had taken it. Don't get me wrong, the organization I work for is great, it's just so far from my family and loved ones, (it's practicallly on the other side of the world!). So, my question is, does anyone know of an MDS position available in Austin, TX that I might be interested in? Let me know.

Wow! I was reading through the posts about the variety of salaries throughout the country what a BIG difference. In Delaware, MDS coordinators with experience are so hard to find I guess we can name our own price. I make $31 and hour plus benefits 3 personal days, 3 weeks vacation (which I was eligible for at date of hire) holidays, no on call, no weekends, I have 40 beds, skilled and private pay. My last job I had 108 beds medicare and medicaid, benefits sucked, $27 hr, weekends, one day per week call, had to stay over if a nurse called out, pulled to the floor lots of times, etc. So I guess I have it good now.

Have a new MDS COORD. position. $32 to start $34 after 90 days includes vacation, personal, holiday after 90day, LNHA is flexible. 120 beds 10 - 15 medicare, unit managers do their mds, care plans, and meetings for LTC residents.

Leaving @ $26 salary 120 bed facility all beds are medicare certified average 40 Medicare beds monthly sometimes more. All care plan meetings done by me, all LTC care plans done by me. Helped with PPS assessments 2 days a week. In addition to UR mds, scheduling, Tracking, admissions and discharges- on RAVEN with RAPS and care plans WRITTEN>....:uhoh3:

Better days ahead.:balloons:

Wow...it's nice to see that there are other MDS nurses on this site!! I've been the "RNAC assistant" (I'm an LPN till 2009)at my facility for 3 years, and our CMI has risen from 1.14 to 1.50, But, of course, even though I do all of the MDS' and often pick the ARD's, my boss is the RN, so she's making a lot more money. I'm in school for my RN so we'll see what the difference is when I'm done. Right now I make $20 per hour salary. Great benefits, so I can't complain, and they don't care what hours I work as long as the job gets done. I just get a bit overwhelmed at times...139 residents, anywhere from 10-30 of them skilled at a time. I do every MDS....quarterly, annual, admission, Medicare 5, 14, 30, 60, 90 and significant change, plus write all the nursing care plans. It's tough to keep track of everything that's going on, plus the floor nurses get upset sometimes 'cause gosh, I'm only doing paperwork....

Specializes in ICU, LTC (Rehab, Mgmt, MDS).

I am a fairly new MDS coordinator in a LTC/STR facility. My case load is 80 residents, with an average of 12-15 skilled at a time. I do not cover the floor if they are short staffed, however, I am on every committee there could possibly be and also have to fill in for the ADNS when on vacation. I make 30/hr, and benefits are ok...

I belong to AANAC and although I've heard them discuss salaries on the discussion group, I can't find any info on their website regarding salaries. I believe that we should make as much as the ADON, but I don't see that happening.

I wish half the time I do my MDS work(20hrs) the floor 20hrs a weak and help the DON we don't have a ADON 40 pts plus 50 assisted living res that we help with. In western Kansas first year as mds 13yrs in facility wage didn't change with mds certified $16.00hr benifits are pretty good.

I've just been offered a LTC MDS Coordinator position - I have no experience what-so-ever - and not quite sure if I'm going to accept it or not. The rate of pay told to me is $19/hr.

You can't be a coordinator unless you are an RN. You can do all the assessments, run the meetings, write the care plans, but an RN must sign the MDS. No offense but don't you find it strange that someone with no experience what so ever would be hired as an MDS coordinator?

I dont see anything strange about a facility hiring someone with no experience my facility did just that when they hired me. They had had so much turnover that so many errors from too many people doing the mds that having someone with no experience allowed them take time to build and develop skills without trying to outshine bad habits. It has worked well I love my job and no one else wants it

Thank you BRemus - you just gave the exact reason as to why this LTC facility stated they were looking for someone they could 'train' to do MDS paperwork the way they wanted it done - to skip the 'bad habits' that the prior MDS persons brought with them.

Glad you like the job. I know it's 'not for everyone' though.

They have a traveling MDS RN that will come in & give me approx. 3 weeks of training, and I would also take the MDS class/seminars when they come up next.

I have a day & a half to decide if I'd like to accept the position or not. It's a big change from being a floor nurse, so it's not going to be an easy decision.
