MDS Coordinator salaries

Published

I know I have asked this before, but people change so fast on here I thought I would see what the response was like in 2006.

So, if you don't mind

1. How much to you make as MDS Co (or if you're a DON/ADON - how much is your MDS person paid). I make $21/Hr and thinking that is not enough!

2. What part of the country do you live in. I live in Indiana.

3. How much experience do you have w/ MDS. I have 6+ years.

Thank You

AANAC.com offers an excellent certification process you can either do it online or in the three day training workshop and then take the exams on paper or online. I just completed the 3 day workshop and it was immensely beneficial. I have been an mds coordinator for almost one year and I love it. good luck

HELLO. I am a MDS Coordinator in Rhode Island. I have been for more than 10 years. I make 28.50 an hour and could have asked for more. The benefits are not that great in my company and that seems to be the trend in long term care. Does anyone know about Arizona salaries for MDS Coordinators? I am going to be relocating within the next year or so.

I am a LPN in Tucson, Arizona. Moved here two years ago from Washington state & took about a 75 cent cut in pay. I currently make $21.19 + am due for a 3% raise right now that I will be getting. Hope this is of some help.

I live in Northeast Florida, and I make 25 an hour as an LPN and I have been doing MDS's for over 10 years. It took me almost the whole ten years to make this much, and as most everyone else our benefits are terrible. I do get paid less than an RN in most facilities around here. I work in LTC. That's why I decided to go finish college and get my RN. I love doing MDS and Care plans. KaseyKhane

I work in Kansas, do MDS for two LTC's...(about average of 50+ residents, 4-5 Medicare A's). I make 18.50, Im an RN, with NO BENEFITS. All you that think ur pay is bad.......

I Work In Southern California And I Am The Mds Coordinator I Make $24/hr Wich Is Nothing Considering The Cost Of Living In California Is Way Too High! I Was Upset When I Learned The Night Rn Supervisor (new Higher) Was Started At $33 Per Hr. I Conduct Care Plan Meeting Do All The Medicare Assessments And Quarterly's And Annuals, Review All The Inquiries From The Admissions Dir. And Tons Of Other Misc. Duties Mds Is So Underly Recognized For All The Hard Work We Complete

I'm in southeast Florida. As an MDS Cooridnator in Palm Beach County I was salaried and as of late 2006 made 63K a year. That's a bit over 30 dollars an hour. From speaking to other MDS Coordinators in the area I would say that was about average. In the past year salaries have gone up, perhaps because there are not too many skilled MDS Coordinators around, and the cost of living has risen in SE Florida, so nurses are demanding higher pay.

In my current facility, we have an LPN as a MDS Coordinator (which I don't think is a good idea) and he makes 55K a year, about $27 an hour.

At this point in time, in my area of the country, I wouldn't work as an RN MDS Coordinator for less than 65K. Some MDS Coordinators in Martin and Palm Beach Counties are making even more than that.

I think some nurses don't realize that they can command a higher rate of pay in positions such as MDS, ADON and DON. It's all about supply and demand.

On Long Island, where I'm from, I'm sure the pay for MDS Coordinators is much higher. It was over thirty an hour when I left a few years ago.

$67,000 per year works out to $32.21 per hour, assuming a 40 hour work week.

I don't any mds coordinators that work only 40 hours /week.

Hello, I'm new to this website. I was doing google searches for salaries of MDS Coordinators after I was offered a position as one, and I came accross this forum. I took the position and I'll be starting at $36/hr with benefits. I have no experience as an MDS Coordinator, but I have another degree that may help me on the job. I live in Northern California.

I think that these discussions regarding nursing pay are very helpful. Nurses deserve to be paid well for the hard work they do. Also, as healthcare providers and human beings we and our families deserve full access to healthcare, by way of benefits.

As a side note, I read a previous comment that you should not expect better pay when you are already expected to work hard as part of your job. This was troubling to me. I believe it is that way of thinking that holds nurses back in terms of expecting to be paid according to what they are worth. Members of other professions would not think they shouldn't get raises according to the quality of their work. Why should we? Furthermore, I think in practice a lot of nurses are dramatically underpaid to start with. I think if we were to bind together (like we are doing on this website for example), and demand better pay then we (and our families) would all go far. Let's not discourage one another from demanding our worth. :)

In five years, the only times I ever worked more than 40 hours a week were during the hurricanes of 2004 and 2005, and that wasn't because I was doing MDS assessments! (we had to evacuate). I worked Monday-Friday, 7-3:30. No weekends, no holidays, no on-call. I wasn't ever allowed to be pulled from MDS to anything else (hurricanes being the exception). The position was given the respect it deserved, by company policy, being so time senstive and important in the making of money for the building! My only duties were MDS (scheduling, coordinating, transmitting, billing logs), careplans, PPS meetings, department head meetings, and required inservices. I did only Medicare and Insurance. I had an assistant (fulltime) who did the LTC assessments. This was a 120 bed facility.

In my current building, the MDS Coordinator has almost identical duties to those described above, and also works Monday-Friday 7-3:30, weekends and holidays off, no on-call, no being pulled to other duties. The only thing he does that I didn't have to do is supervise the dining room for one meal a week.

These are two different companies. I don't think this is unusual for our area. MDS Coordinators are highly valued in our geographical area. How MDS nurses can be on call, be pulled to work the floors etc is beyond me. That just doesn't work, for so many reasons.

MDS nurses, put your collective feet down!

Salaries are very state based. COLORADO pays RCMD which is the head MDS person an average of $27, Assistant MDS or back up is around $25. I was DON in private facility that paid its LPN MDS person 26 and change and she was worth every penny. The MDS person is who ensures that we all get paid.
