Hey, congrats on your acceptances! I’m personally not on the same boat, but I did consider this scenario, as I also considered applying to JH. NYC and MD are pretty distinct environmentally. They’re both major cities, but the atmosphere is very different - so take that how you want. The cost of living will also differ, but NYC rent is pretty reasonable for the area currently, IMO (I live in downtown Boston, so I may just be biased). Columbia has the #1 DNP program in the country, but I think the JH MDE program ranks higher than CU; depending on which career route you’re considering, I’d take this into consideration - one school may favor students who completed their MDE program more when considering them for DNP. They’re both great programs, so there’s not really a wrong choice.

I’m not sure why this decision is very hard. I only want to become an RN and not really go for my DNP. However, I may change my mind in the future. I should’ve applied to ABSN programs but the school names really blinded me LOL. I know the deadline to send my deposit for CU is coming up real soon too. Is anyone NOT committing to Columbia? I just wanna know everyone’s thoughts on other schools since im not 100% sure on what to do.

There are a lot of schools still accepting applications to ABSN programs. Pace is accepting, Thomas Jefferson, UMIAMI, NYU just to name a few!

I am actually in a similar boat and also don't know why this decision is so hard! I was accepted to the MDE program but only intend to become an RN. I was planning to apply to PACE and NYU in addition to Columbia, but heard back from Columbia before the other two applications were due. I'm struggling now with whether I should still submit my apps for the other schools. I know the deadline for committing to Columbia is coming up and I'm unsure if I should pay the $500 to hold my spot and still apply to the others? Everyone asks which one I'd go to if I got into all three, and I honestly don't know!!

I was honestly not expecting to hear back from Columbia so soon I thought I would’ve heard back in February. I might apply to some ABSN programs. But it hurts to put down $500 which we won’t get back even if we don’t go to Columbia. Soo... I may just apply to other schools and pay to hold my spot and if I get accepted to an ABSN program which might be fairly cheaper? I’ll go. And give my spot up for someone who may be on the waitlist at CU.

Actually, I decided to not hold my spot at Columbia at all. I really can’t afford to put down $500. Im applying to multiple ABSN programs which seem fairly cheaper and I know ill be accepted to atleast one of them. So good luck to everyone who got accepted to Columbia ! And for those of you who are in the second round theres an extra seat now available, haha.

Would someone who received their financial aid package info be so kind as to explain a couple of things to me possibly over email? LOL I have a couple of questions on mine!

I also found the financial aid info super confusing!! They don't make it easy to read/understand!

Hi !

I thought I was in the second rounds then I randomly decided to check my email and for some reason Columbia’s email ended up in my junk/spam folder ?. Unfortunately my decision was a rejection. I don't know how they ended up in that folder but the decision of a rejection sucks. Just wanted to share this information just incase it ended up in anyone of your junk/spam!

Another way to check is also to log into your application portal. It will say that an update was posted. Thank you for this and for updating us. ?? I went to check myself to see if this had happened to me too. I’m really sorry to hear about the rejection. This is my second time applying as I was rejected last year (this year who knows ?? still waiting and I’m persistent as ever). Sending you a virtual hug, rejections are the worst. Just remember not to give up yet. I’m not sure if you applied to other schools but I hope that your potential as a future nurse/NP is seen by other schools so they don’t miss out on you ❤️

Thank you so much. I appreciate your thoughtfulness. ❤️I did apply to other schools. I honestly did not have high hopes for an acceptance from Columbia. So in a way, I wasn't too surprised with a rejection. I wish you and everyone else the best of luck !!

For those who are accepted in the first round, is the program cost a large factor for you to decide whether to accept/decline the offer?

The largest, honestly.

YES. I declined my offer which was largely contributed by the cost of the program. Of course I knew the cost before the program but I thought getting in would be a long shot LOL. So things really hit me once I got accepted and I had to do some real thinking. Is this school for me? Do I really truly want to accept all these loans? Are there any other schools that cost less and still end up with an RN license? So I made up my mind and decided to go with ABSN programs. Since my end goal is just to be an RN. They are not drastically cheaper but I do save some sort of money ?
