Hey ! I know im super early to make this thread for the MDE program at Columbia for the 2021 start year ? but I was wondering if there are any future nurses out there as eager as me to get started !!
For those who attended Columbia's Admitted Students activities, what did you think? Did it help make anyone's decision?
I found they are doing a good job handling the impacts of Covid on the program but I didn't hear how faculty are really invested in their students. Am I alone in thinking this way?
I think it's a bit much to ask for our deposits before comparable programs release their admission decisions (a week later)... maybe this is just another example of Columbia wanting to make money off of us...?

Hi! I understand your thinking - I certainly thought it was a lot for them to ask for such a big decision in a relatively short amount of time. However, this year is different due to the rounds, so this is the most fair way for them to do it (that way second round applicants can hear back sooner). I have also had other schools require me to make a decision in less time AND without providing any admitted students day events/information. For example, I was accepted into one school in mid December, deposit was due Jan 5th, and admitted students day was jan 12th. That definitely felt a bit odd to me, and I did not put down a deposit (also didn't feel too strongly about the program).
So, all things considered, I think that Columbia has done a good job at providing as much info as possible and giving adequate time to decide.
Rumor has it there’s an article circulating that by 2028, DNPs will be required for NPs. Anyone else come across this article? I couldn’t find it. Though reading it would make me think heavily about attending a DNP program instead of a MDE program. Just wondering. Wasn’t sold on attending CU’s expensive program but now I might.

I would worry about it, but at the same time I wouldn’t worry about it. This has been said time and time again. It was said that 2015 will DEFINITELY be the year that NP’s are required to have a DNP....and still nothing LOL
I was actually just speaking with my RN manager about this topic a few weeks back!?

If true, wouldnt pre-2028 MSNs be grandfathered in?

I agree with @Omgbeck_123. This was said for years now and no change has happened about that ?. They do have dnp programs around that may be a bit cheaper than CU’s program, just have to do some research! But I think when the time actually comes where NP’s require DNP’s they would be grandfathered in and not be much of a headache.
Yesterday I received a Columbia email that my decision was ready. It included a link to my status page - where it said my decision letter was available. However, when I click on the link my status is still listed as submitted. I tried logging in and out but it still says submitted. Did this happen to anyone else? Am I missing something on the page? All I see is my submitted materials. I emailed Columbia yesterday but no word back, yet.
