Does anyone know how important medical experience is to Columbia? Like does one who has experience working with patients as a CNA for example, more competitive than someone who doesn’t have any medical experience? (Like myself) Sorry just really second guessing myself as the time is getting closer to decisions and I'm so nervous!!

I’m sure many people who get accepted  came from different backgrounds without healthcare experience. They look at applications holistically, and look at you as a whole. Im not gonna lie, im also very nervous and feel that even though I have some patient care experience it still won’t be enough because it’s not exactly yearsss of experience. I know they look for a diverse cohort, people from all backgrounds and different from each other. So we just have to sit tight and try to have some faith even though its hard sometimes ?

I appreciate your response, thank you for reminding me of their holistic process! At least im not the only one that’s nervous, haha. I hope tomorrow is the day.

I am also very nervous because I genuinely think that tomorrow is really going to be the day. I have only applied to Columbia and Johns Hopkins for now because I don't really want to waste money and energy to apply to more schools that are only offering ABSN programs. Good luck to all of us waiting for the second rounds. Hopefully if people in the first round choose to defer, it could mean more seats for the second round people! (But columbia probably offered the defer thing last year as well..? not sure)

I feel like it’s tomorrow too! I only applied to Columbia at first, then recently applied to Mount Saint Vincent & just applied to NYU. I  prefer a masters though, over an ABSN. I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep tonight at all ? I think this deferring to next year is new, due to COVID-19, influx of apps, and some people have duties to fulfill. So I think they also are trying to help us second round people out. I do think they sent out more acceptances in the first round though and now they’re trying to give majority of us a chance. I also feel there might be a waitlist. Because if they gave people a chance to defer in the first rounds, they’ll definitely offer that in the second rounds and people will make it off the waitlist if people decide to defer.

How much people do they typically accept? Like how big is the cohort, exactly 200? I hear different things all the time.

I called Columbia earlier about withdrawing completely because I don’t plan to defer anymore. They said some people have reached out to withdraw their application and they advise people who plan on attending another institution to let them know so they can withdraw your application - because it gives room for prospective students. Which im sure is you all in the second rounds. I don’t want to be greedy or take up room when I know decisions are coming out soon for you all ❤️
