Hey ! I know im super early to make this thread for the MDE program at Columbia for the 2021 start year ? but I was wondering if there are any future nurses out there as eager as me to get started !!
I was going to apply to CU, but decided against it due to cost. But I was already following this thread. I don't think it will make any of you feel better about this situation or CU, but all of the schools I've applied to are saying that they've had an influx of applications and they are taking longer to get out decisions. Another school I applied to is doing their interviews and decisions in a 2 tier process as well, but didn't let anyone know beforehand. I think all of the schools are overwhelmed with applications and not equipped to get them out in a timely manner. I agree it sucks to be waiting, especially this long, and they shouldn't have over promised on an early decision date, or any specific date for that matter, especially if they couldn't follow through. I hope you all get in though, and have a better experience with them in the future.

Yeah I feel like they should’ve just at least kept us in the loop.. the last mass email they’ve sent said early February. It’s really inconsiderate to those that are waiting

Totally! I don't think they realize how stressful this process is! I'm waiting on schools that give no update whatsoever, but I think that's almost better than getting an update that can't be trusted.
Wow, I've been trying to give them the benefit of the doubt all along. But this is indeed getting to be really frustrating and confusing. I have to say, I'm pretty baffled by the fact that admissions hasn't sent out *some* kind of email updating us all, offering some explanation for the continued delays and misleading information. Especially given that it sounds like plenty of applicants have been calling and emailing them to express this confusion and frustration. Why would they not want to attempt to soothe some of that? Looking at it from kind of a PR standpoint, that just seems silly and surprises me. I'm feeling upset that they initially gave us the sense that the two rounds of application reviews/decisions would be treated equally, even though they'd be handled at separate times. Yet it feels like those of us in the second round are being treated as an afterthought, or, like others have pointed out -- like we're on a waitlist without them telling us that. It doesn't feel good. If nothing else, I guess I just want to express some solidarity here with everyone who's also waiting. It feels like a kind of whiplash to wake up so many mornings thinking, "OK, this is probably the day...today or tomorrow." Only to then hear repeatedly that, nope, it may not be for another two or three weeks now. Oof.
Guess we'll just keep hanging in there, though! What else can we do.
I just talked to Admissions and can confirm the word is now “by the end of February”. The staff I spoke to said she had just found out about this timeline shortly before I called. She was very kind and empathized when I shared how frustrated and stressed everyone has been. She said they are still reviewing applications and want to look at everything throughly before releasing decisions. I explained that while this makes sense (and should be appreciated as an applicant), it would be much more settling to hear this as a group. She said she understood and to me, it seems like they have been incredibly overwhelmed and still have a good deal of work to do. Take it as you will, but despite the frustration I’m grateful if it means my application isn’t skimmed over.
Also, it’s a short month so I’m going to hope that the longest remaining wait is 13 days.

Thanks for your thoughts here, and I agree. It does seem like just about every school's admissions team has been overwhelmed this year for a number of reasons. I do feel for them and can appreciate the tough spot they're in. I just think Columbia could be handling this much better by being clearer and more communicative about the bumps along the way. Even if they were to send a little email acknowledging that they overestimated how quickly they could get through the second-round reviews -- I think that would go a long way, and would just be the considerate thing to do.
And yes, I too hope we have better experiences with them (communication-wise) going forward! I hear some people here expressing that this whole situation is giving them a negative impression of the program, and I can understand that.
Hi everyone! Been reading this chat for the past few months and I just really felt as though I needed to say something about all of this. I just called the admissions office and the women I spoke with sounded VERY annoyed when I asked when I could expect to hear back about an admissions decision. She told me the end of the month, and when I asked if there would be an updated email sent out to this round of applicants informing them of this change, she said “listen, I don’t know. It could be this week, next week, end of the month, I don’t know, okay?” As an applicant who spent months working on this application, paid an application fee, and who would potentially be paying $100k+ in tuition to attend your institution, I’m baffled to say the least.

They probably have hundreds of people calling right now. They should atleast send out an email stating what is going on right now, and if they are overwhelmed they should just say that. It's really turning everyone off. But the rudeness of them is very unnecessary. I think they should disconnect their line temporarily if they are just going to be rude and send out a mass email.

This is really mind blowing.. they tell people different inaccurate information. I lost all hope for this school.
