Hi,
I just took the Hesi entrance exam last week and I am about to apply to Miami Dade College for the Spring 2017 generic full time program. The deadline is September 1 so I am sure there are more than a few people that have applied or are getting ready to apply. I have not seen a forum as yet for spring 2017. I would like to hear from people who are applying for spring 2017.
For those that are in or have finished the nursing program, I have a few questions:
1. Do we need to take our books to classes? Wondering so I know which type of bookbag to buy.
2. Any recommendations where to buy the clinical shoes? Brands? Type? Etc.
3. Besides the lab bag do we take anything else to class?
4. Does anyone remember having to print out the packet that at orientation you were told to get from the schools G drive? Or can we just save onto our own USB without having to print it?
5. Lastly, very nervous about starting nursing school... any pointers to survive the year LOL... besides studying hard? What can we expect the first few weeks?
1. For the first semester if you're in homestead you NEED your fundamentals book with you in class or else you'll be lost. She tells you what you need to highlight, study, read, etc. I'm sure most professors are like this for fundamentals though. It's always best to bring your books with you.
2. I got my shoes at nursemates.com. They are kinda pricey at $75 but they are so comfy and you'll be standing in clinicals all day so they are worth it. Nurse Mates Dove White - Zappos.com Free Shipping BOTH Ways
3. DO NOT bring the lab bag to class. Only bring it when your professor tells you to. You only need it for practice, and for exam day in the lab.
5. Just relax and know that this program is very do-able. You just need to be committed, do all your readings, study for the exams a week in advance, do a lot of practice questions on EVOLVE, buy the Saunders review book for even more practice questions, FORM A STUDY GROUP (this is the best thing I did) but make sure the group isn't like 10 people because then things can get confusing when studying for exams and splitting up the study guides.
Hope this helped!

Yes it sure did! The EVOLVE questions are part of a code with a book or free to access?
The only GPS that counts is the science classes GPA and the HESI score. The HESI score is worth 60% and the GPA 40%.
You can get get the HESI score and multiply it by 0.60 then get the GPA and multiply by 10. Then add the two numbers. If you get somewhere in the 80s range you will have a good shot at entering in the program

It's only for clinicals but if you don't have them in time don't worry it's not really mandatory. I'm in my 4th semester and haven't bought one and not one clinical professor has told me anything.
