MDC Nursing Spring 2017

Published

Hi,

I just took the Hesi entrance exam last week and I am about to apply to Miami Dade College for the Spring 2017 generic full time program. The deadline is September 1 so I am sure there are more than a few people that have applied or are getting ready to apply. I have not seen a forum as yet for spring 2017. I would like to hear from people who are applying for spring 2017.

Hey guys! Congrats on getting accepted to this journey! I'm one week away from being done with semester 3 at the homestead campus generic FT and have free time to answer any questions!

You do not need health insurance.

How has your experience been in the clinicals?

Which semester has been the hardest?

The experiences have been great. I love doing clinical in any of the jackson hospitals because they're teaching hospitals and the nurses are really nice and let you do everything. Clinicals for the first semester kind of suck because it's going to be a nursing home and there's not much to do just vital signs, making beds, and giving baths. Once you get to med-surg is when the fun begins in clinicals! BTW (you pass clinicals by just showing up and doing a couple of care-plans)

Semester 2 hands down. You have Pharmacology which is the hardest class of the whole program and then Med-Surg is easy but a lot of information to memorize while you already have pharmacology to worry about. It requires a lot of attention and studying almost every day and you will do fine. Semester 1 is pretty hard as well because you're new and don't know how to answer nursing type questions and fundamentals can be really tricky. Semester 3 is a breeze and it's like a mini vacation.

Thanks! How do you prepare for nursing type questions and fundamentals?

I would buy the purple Saunders book it has a bunch of practice questions you can do online and is the best book to practice and get the hang of it, they have tricks on how to find the right answer in questions too. Also when you start the semester they will give you a log in for a website called EVOLVE that has thousands of questions to practice as well. With nursing school there could be 2-3 correct answers in a question but you have to choose the BEST correct answer. The key is remembering your ABCs (airway, breathing, and circulation take priority in every questions) and Maslows.

Hello Nursingst,

I just registered and financial aid covered all my classes. I think if you have a previous bachelors degree, it won't cover.

THanks for helping with all this information. Everyone answering questions has been incredibly helpful. Is there anything specific we should bring to orientation? Mine is December 1st.

If you're not complaint with Complio I'd bring all your documents just in case they ask for them. I'd also bring a folder to put in all the papers they will be giving out and a pen for filing things out.
