MDC Nursing Spring 2017

Published

Hi,

I just took the Hesi entrance exam last week and I am about to apply to Miami Dade College for the Spring 2017 generic full time program. The deadline is September 1 so I am sure there are more than a few people that have applied or are getting ready to apply. I have not seen a forum as yet for spring 2017. I would like to hear from people who are applying for spring 2017.

That's my biggest concern as well if I'll be able to work at least on the weekends. I heard the first semester is the toughest. Is this true? What's the schedule/hours like more or less in the first semester as compared to the rest of the program?

I'm already freaking out and thinking maybe the Generic would be a better option.

The first semester is 21 credits. This was split into 2 mini semesters basically.

The first half is when you take Fundamentals Of Nursing (Lecture MF). Fundamental clinicals (7-3). Fundamental skills lab (TWR) . Assessment lab (Fridays)

and Intro to Pharm (Math)

Intro to Pharm and Skills lab was about a month and a half. We were going to class every day. After those classes ended, we had 1 day off (I believe Thursday).

Friday was the longest day because Assessment was from 2-5ish?

The next half was Med Surg. MS clinical. and Pharm. These classes were 3 months long.

2nd semester: Peds, OB (both 1 month long). These were in the afternoon.

3rd semester: Psych. Advanced Med Surg and Leadership.

Basically the first semester, you're taking multiple classes. Once you get to the 2nd and 3rd, you'll be able to focus on 1 subject... so in that sense things get somewhat easier on you.

Im actually working during this program. I work per diem but i was put very often on the weekends, there were a few months id work every weekend. In my personal opinion, the program is very doable working twice every other week or once a week. the tough part about the first semester is figuring out the test and how to answer questions.

Nursing exams are different in that you need to know what the question is really asking. You can have the same scenario but two different answers based on "what should you do first" and "whats a priority". Id say to work and see how your first test goes. For me, work and school went by smoothly till just the last two months of school because my clinical days were changed last minute. I hope your manager is okay changing your schedule because you might have a weekend clinical, its possible.

Buy the NCLEX-RN examination saunders book and hesi book, its what all the nursing students use like a "bible". Get familiar with how questions are asked and the rationale even though you may not fully understand the topic yet. Don't feel overwhelmed, you'll get the hang of things and know what you have to do.

Not a problem. Glad we could help.

They just a released a newer edition so the older one will probably be much cheaper.

Once you buy the Saunders book, make sure to add it to your evolve account so you can have access to the practice questions!

hey guys I'm curious did anyone get accepted to the Generic full time that has a science GPA of 3.5 or lower
