MDC Nursing Fall 2017

Published

Hi everyone! I just wanted to start a thread for applicants of the nursing program at Miami Dade College for Fall term 2017. I'm currently working on my last prerequisites and will be finished this semester. I plan on taking the HESI A2 in January and applying for the Generic and Part time tracks.

Did the second batch already go out?

I have a question regarding the schedule. Can Part time students choose a class in the morning during the week if the one on weekends does not work for them? Or you have to take classes always with your classmates from the same option ( full time/part time etc)

An advisor can confirm this, but from my understanding, course selection is based on the sequence and plan code you're in. Certain classes you won't be able to register for because of this.

Yeah message me on here!

I have questions about the Accelerated program! Is there anyone I can contact here that has been in this program or is currently in this program?

yeah message me on here!

Congratulations! How did you study? For how long each day? Did you mostly stick to reading & going over notes or did you do practice questions too?

I used the the lecture power points, text books, and practice questions on evolve, which they will give you access to.

In the beginning I studied pretty much every day for a few hours with a study partner. Mostly going through the power points, dissecting them and making my own little study guide type of thing. I would add key points from the book that weren't mentioned in class. I never read the chapters word for word, I would skim and read carefully the topics that were focused on.

You will pretty much have an exam every week.

After med surg and pharm it gets a lot calmer.

Hi there and thanks for your contribution! I'm going to see an advisor next week but I can't wait already..the excitement is building! =)

So, having an LPN at application time, do you think it's easier to get into the bridge program vs the generic? I'm open and have the time to do either...I just really want to be accepted.

HI Everyone!!

This is my first entry on this blog. Just wanted to pass it on that if anyone in here hasn't heard yet, and they think they should have I would highly recommend dropping by advisement at the medical college. I transferred into MDC with a BA in Psychology last year to finish up my prerequisites for Nursing. Some classes transferred right in (Chemistry Lecture and Lab), but one did not (College Algebra). I asked advisors to alert the Transcription Department, but it never got transferred. I was assured when I applied in March 2017 that it would transfer and not to worry. When I did not hear anything in the first wave of acceptance letters, I went down to advisement and sure enough my College Algebra was still not transferred, and that is why I didn't get a letter. I am sure it was an oversight, but thats the kind of oversight that could have had me starting in January, 2018 instead of August, 2017. Not cool!!

The advisors acted promptly and everything got transferred, and I got the letter this past week. To be clear, I am not posting this in any way to bad mouth MDC. I can't imagine what this process must be like for them, and I know that sometimes things just fall through the cracks. That's why we have to be our own advocates and share these tidbits of information.

My message to you all is to be persistent. This is an amazing opportunity for all of us, and we have to make sure we do what it takes to make it happen for all of us. Obviously, we all want to help people, and I think this blog is a great place to start to help each other!!

Peace, Alan

Guys,

So, currently I have a full time job making 55k a year with full benefits... and the house hold bread maker... my question:

How and or what advice do you guys have for me when going into nursing school and not being able to do full time anymore and more than likely losing all those benefits? Did you find a new part time job? Did you get loans (I have a BSN already I can't get financial aid)? My wife is working and going to school as well.

Please let me know if anyone has any good tips or has been there themselves.

I should add I have the post 9-11 GI Bill I'm going to use for Nursing school which nets me a good 1.8-2.2k per month plus fully paid college...

Thanks!!!

Congrats Alan.

My status has changed to "compliant" in the complio system. I'm happy that's over and done with. :) Orientation will take a full day.

CONGRATS! How much did you pay for everything?
