MDC Nursing Fall 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone! I just wanted to start a thread for applicants of the nursing program at Miami Dade College for Fall term 2017. I'm currently working on my last prerequisites and will be finished this semester. I plan on taking the HESI A2 in January and applying for the Generic and Part time tracks.

My status has changed to "compliant" in the complio system. I'm happy that's over and done with. :) Orientation will take a full day.

That's great!í ½í±í ¼í¿¼í ½í±í ¼í¿¼í ½í±í ¼í¿¼ I'm one away from being fully compliant and then orientation. Can't wait for next weekí ½í¸†

CONGRATS! How much did you pay for everything?

Thanks. $325 at MDC for the tdap shot, physical exam, titers, drug screening, and 2 tb shots that were administered 7 days apart. I'm fully immune, so I didn't need any vaccinations. No flu shot is required at this time. The background check cost $55.75. I already have a valid CPR/BLS card from my last job. I just had to upload a copy of it.

That's Awesome. If you already have a recent background check done do you still need to do another one?

Yes, you will need another one. This is from the nursing admission website...

"Successfully complete and clear the MDC vendor level two criminal background screening. You will need to schedule and appointment for your background check."

LOL How rude of me not to share my news with AllNurses.com. I was accepted into the part time program!

Question. Does anyone know what type of clinical setting we'll be starting for the first semester? Where are you guys looking to do your rounds?

Your first semester is done in a nursing home. After that, you may choose hospitals like hialeah hospital, Jackson memorial, Jackson north, mount Sinai, aventura and baptist if you're in the homestead campus.

Hi Cristymarieee,

Do you get to chose the location for Baptist Hospital, or is it assigned to you by the program?

I haven't tried. Technically you can but you run the risk of them dropping you. Baptist I believe is reserved for homestead because those are the Students who live down south so it's more convenient for them. They email you with a list of clinical sites and lecture classes that are available for your specific sequence once you're in the program. You have to choose from there. Some classes are specific for bridge, accelerated, generic, part time etc. but some people sneak into other lectures or clinicals and get away with it.

It's a mission registering. You'll see. Classes get filled so fast. Especially clinical. I recommend Sinai and Jackson memorial for any rotation. Obviously Miami children if you can for pediatrics. Best hands on experience has been in Jackson memorial. They let you do so much if your comfortable. I learned a lot there. Favorite professors are: Holloman for pharm. Nitti and Bonawitz for OB. Hanna for fundamentals.. they all also teach other subjects. Hm Coleman is great for skills. Tomlinson for pharm math. She's crazy but great too.

Anyone concerned about not having all requirements complete by orientation? The background check person said my info would be sent to mdc. Do I need to speak with mdc? I can't get blood work for titers and drug test until saturday. And I can't do another ppd until Monday. This is pushing it. Anyone else in a similar situation?

Your background check you will have to pick up at the deans office about 4-5 days after completing. Maybe sooner. You pick it up and upload to complio. Everything else you just need to have it done before clinicals start. Which is in September. They just want you to have it done asap so there is not too many people non compliant. You're fine. If anything just tell them what's going on.

I appreciate all the information! Do you attend the Medical campus? I can imagine that registering can be tricky but hopefully everyone gets a schedule that works out for them. Do all clinicals start at 7:00 am? Thanks!

Yeah I'm at medical campus. Registering is done with advisement or in the nursing department and its first come first serve so clinicals and other classes get filled quickly. People get there really early to get the classes they want.

All clinicals start at 7 am and end at 3 pm until you reach specialty. You'll be there from 7a-7p.
