MDC Fall 2011 =)

Published

Hi guys! Who else is applying for MDC Fall 2011?

I am also applying for FIU-- I was accepted last year to MDC but for financial and personal reasons could not attend. :'( Who else will be applying to Generic FT? Please state what program you will be applying to!

I will be taking the TEAS sometime in March, in which I will also be taking the HESI A2 for FIU. So I might as well be studying for both, lol. Anybody taken the TEAS at MDC? Share your experiences here! :) I will be using a general book for nursing school entrance exams... it's by Barron... and I will be studying my math from a nursing calculation book, and my sciences from my anatomy, biology, and other notes. Is it true there is geology on the exam? How irrelevant... lol

Well good luck to us all! :heartbeat

mocadell74, I was wondering the same thing. When I first started MDC I asked the advisor which program was the easiest to get into. I had originally signed up for Nuclear Med but then heard people saying there are a lack of jobs. I wanted to apply to Nursing as well as another bakcup program, whichever was the easiest. I asked a couple of advisors about how many apply to program X versus how many are accepted in order to figure out which would be easiest. But I never got an answer.

MDCDreams...MDC is horrible when giving you any info..on the bright side, I was looking at prior postings dating back to 2009 and those people at the time were commenting on how MDC has a second acceptance "procedure". Apparantly if the first x amount of people for some reason or another are not able to accept their acceptance then a second round of acceptance letters go out...so that makes me a little more confident..I'm gonna go crazy 'till June!!!!! :uhoh3:

I wish that I could figure out for sure the books that we'll be using! I would like to purchase them in time for classes to start. I wouldn't mind getting a head start in one or two of the books too (or leaving the book open on my kitchen table, so I feel like I'm getting a head start, lol).

I would have to imagine that if there are truly 5,000 applicants and only 1% get in, that at least some of the applicants do not even qualify because of pre-req's, or GPA. . . and even more applicants received scores in the 60's and 70's on the TEAS. I also believe that MDC is vague as a CYA mechanism- like they don't want to get anyone's hopes up just in case. I know someone who's application score is 98, and they wouldn't even hint to her whether or not she would be accepted.

Total CYA thing...if advisors gave opinions, can you imagine how many ****** off people would be showing up with their rejection letters, complaining about how so-and-so said they would get in? It's better that they just keep their mouths shut and sort it by the numbers

Also, even if 5000 people did apply, and 150 were accepted, that's the top 3%, and that's before disqualifications for not meeting the requirements as you said.

Your friend Miss 98, good for her! I think we can all agree that's a lock to get in!

After reading other threads it seems there are people who have applied to MDC as their back-up plan and if they're in the top 3% chances are good they'll get into their 1st choice school and leave more spots open for those of us who have our hearts set on MDC. :redbeathe

DEA089..I hope your right!! MDC is really the only school I can go to. It's the only school that offers part-time. I have three boys and work full-time so I cannot quit my job :(

If you don't mind me asking, what is your science gpa and TEAS score?

I was fortunate to speak with a great and very knowledgeable advisor the last time I was there. Though she wouldn't give me exact numbers (I don't think they're allowed to) she was very adamant that each program has a different applicant pool. For instance, generic part-time applicants are only competing against other part-time applicants and full-time applicants are competing only against other full-time applicants, etc.

If someone applies to full & part time and gets accepted to both they can only choose one, which means a seat just opened up in the other. :D

My GPA is a 3.8 I believe..I have a B in micro and the rest are A's...and I got a 78.7 on my TEAS test. This gives me an 85 competitive score (I think). The 78.7 puts me in the 88th % of the program. What do you think??? I'm not too sure..but I have FAITH!! ;) How about you?? Which program are you applying for? That's great info that the advisor gave you! I only applied to the part-time...

Dea- I agree with you 100%. I am actually one of those applying to both the accelerated and the generic programs. I am hoping to get into the generic and apply to the Baptist and Jackson scholars program. That being said, if I get into both, there is a spot open for accelerated, and if I am only accepted to the accelerated, I won't be taking up a spot in generic; I've heard rumors that generic is more competitive than accelerated.

Does anyone know how to apply to either scholars program, or if there are others out there? (Say, Mnt Sinai?:p )

Hi do you that teacher name? How was he easy hard?

Salutations-I believe the only scholarship being offered this year through a hospital is Baptist...unfortunantly Jackson has had major funding issues and is going through a lot of political turmoil and changes they are not offering the scholarship anymore. =( I would have applied to Jackson for sure...I keep debating on Baptist because it is really really far south for me...I hope they have an information session on it soon though the web pages really don't offer much information.

Mocadell74, how do you feel about your 85% application score?
