MCI's Nursing School Program

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Can anyone tell me their opinions on MCI's nursing program? I toured yesterday and am scheduled to take the entrance test on Monday. Can you tell me about the test and its difficulty? I would like any opinions on the school and the RN and LPN programs. Thank you.

I am going to VABEACH MCI campus and I'm in the RN program...ask me anything :)...oh and it's Sociology not Psych:)

I have an appointment this Friday to discuss the RN program and tour the site. I dont have a whole lot of info yet and am trying to find out all that I can prior to this appointment. I have 3 kids and will probably be trying to juggle the night schedule and work full time. But if I absolutely HAVE to, I will quit my job to dedicate everything to graduating. I have not been in school for 17 years now. I took a few English, Math and Psychology courses way back then but nothing that is still valid now. I am sure I will have to take pre req classes. at MCI the pre-req's are taken (for free, unless you fail them??) and THEN they decide if you get into the RN program?

IF a pre req is not passed and I have to pay for it, does it cost more than taking it at a community college? Any info at all concerning the program, course load, cost, admission etc would be greatly appreciated.:o

the course load is crazy. Most people that try to work end up quitting or going part time. I beleive about 25-40% of the class will fail at least one class before they finish. It's not easy. Prereg's aren't too bad. Chem is the hardest, but the Day teacher is AWESOME!!!! I don't have experience with the night classes.

Good Luck

MCI Va Beach extended their med surg course another month to make it more in depth, which now makes their RN program 16 months long, not including any prerequisites you may need (computer applications, algebra, and/or chemistry).

I start the algebra class March 1st, and I am pretty nervous! I hear so many mixed reviews about the course load being too much for someone who is working, but how else can I support myself?

Good luck everyone!

I just moved to Va Beach and aiming for the RN program. Would love to chat some time!

Explain what Care Plans are? What are the clinicals like? Which hospitals do most students do their clinicals at? How many days a week are clinicals?

I think someone told me Sociology was one of the classes as well. I have taken Psychology, Sociology, Computers, and English 1. I hope they accept my credits!

I would love to talk with someone who is in the RN program now at VBEACH!:D

Are you applying for the May 2011 start date? I am applying and will begin my pre-req's April 4th. It would be nice to know someone! well... kind of know them :)

Hi Crystal. I know its been awhile since your post. Did you get in and get your pre reqs done? How is it going? I went thru Sentara's NCP program and am working in the hosp now. I wanted to get into the hosp setting and get my feet wet and see if I really would like it. I love it! Now I have to stop with the excuses and get started in school.

I am currently working at SVBGH as an NCP I been there going on 2 years now. I went to ITT Tech and talked to them about their nursing program and took the HESI to get in to the program and passed. But the program is 27 months thats why im kind of on the edge about attending. I have heard alot about MCI. I have heard that MCI's RN program is only 16 months. That would be great for me because I wanna get in there and get out and began my career in as little time as possible. The only thing about MCI is that many people have had to quit there jobs because the work load was just too much. I agree that the program is very fast paced so their is alot to cover in such little time. I mean alot. But I have my own apartment and many bills to pay. SO financially I am not stable enough to risk haveing to quit my job to go to school. What should I do???
