MCI's Nursing School Program

Published

Can anyone tell me their opinions on MCI's nursing program? I toured yesterday and am scheduled to take the entrance test on Monday. Can you tell me about the test and its difficulty? I would like any opinions on the school and the RN and LPN programs. Thank you.

Perhaps late for you, but hence: Go RN if you can handle the load. LPN is overpricey while RN is pricey...enough. If you can do it, do it. The market is tight. Good luck!

Hi, did you end up getting into the school?? I am interested in going and wanted to see what you thought. THanks

Hi. I did end up at MCI in the RN program. I had a 4.0 at the local community college and got straight A's on the prereqs at MCI also. However, I failed the first mod. I got an A in the first nursing class, but failed A&P. So, I am out. I was going to go into the LPN program, but now my financial aid stuff is messed up. It has nothing to do with the school, but my personal finances. I will say that it is a hard program and a few of us flunked the first mod, but I have kept in touch with the people from my class. (They were great) They are working very hard but doing well. I had some family issues going on during the first mod. They will not let you redo if you flunk during the first one. I think to weed out those who won't make it. So, be ready to study, but I liked the school and was hoping to continue in the LPN program.

Hello, I would just like to know, while you were in your A&P class for the RN program at MCI, how was it, did you do group projects, etc.? Thanks

Cayces,

How much does the program cost without financial aid? Also what is the list of classes you much take to earn a A.A.S. degree there? I too have alot of credits earned from my local community college and Im wondering how many other non-nursing classes Ill need to graduate there. Actually do you have any of the registration paperwork from before? Also, which campus did you attend?

I am an RN student at the VB campus. When I started last year, the cost of the program was $36,000. From what I understand, it is now over $40,000 without financial aid. They accept VERY few credits from other schools. English I and II are the only ones that I know you can transfer. I ended up retaking quite a few classes at MCI after taking the same classes at TCC only a year or two before.

WOW really?

Thats highway robbery not to take University credits!!!

I cant believe it...

I would love to go there but not accepting my credits and so expensive...I honestly wouldnt mind the price so much because I absolutly LOVE the nursing field, but I already paid so much for the many credits I have now..hmmm Im thinking I might just go to the Career Training Solutions place in Fredricksburg Va. Does anyone here know anything about them? Like price and if I can transfer my credits?

MCI did recently start taking transfer credits from TCC as well as other colleges. English, A and P, Micro, Sociology, nutrition etc... Recently as in July 2010 after getting a new accrediation from what I hear. I myslef started the RN program over the summer and transferred A and P and English from TCC...it did NOT however reduce my cost...just my workload...still $36,000.

Hey nurse2brn,

Can you tell me what are the prerequisites and what is the complete schedule of classes list for their program? Also, how long will it take for you to graduate from there now and what location are you attending? And, how do you feel about it so far? ...sorry I have so many questions! !

Pre Reqs are:

Chemistry

College Algebra

Computer Applications

GEN ED classes once in the program are:

College Composition I and II

Anatomy and Physiology I & II

Microbiology

Critical thinking

psych

Freshman orientation

hmm..I think that its...then you start nursing classes...

program is 15 months long

I am at the Virginia Beach campus...which is awesome.

Teachers really seem to care and classes are tailored to nurses...not like the Community college classes

I think someone told me Sociology was one of the classes as well. I have taken Psychology, Sociology, Computers, and English 1. I hope they accept my credits!

I would love to talk with someone who is in the RN program now at VBEACH!:D
