Desperately needing the help of some oncology nurses!
Hi, I recently was hired (after a lengthy interview process of 3 months) as a Clinical Tech (aka Patient care technician at some hospitals I believe) in the oncology unit of my hospital and I am sooooo nervous! I'm also a 2nd year nursing student who wants to get into critical care but now that I am training in the hospital for the next 3 weeks I am finding myself more and more scared of actually working on the floor. I have only ever dealt with death maybe once in my lifetime and Im finding myself full of doubts about my own performance. My head is full of "what ifs". What if I don't do something right and it causes someone to get hurt? What if I do not provide enough emotional support for someone at the end of their life? What if I cant handle watching a patient die? Will I be able to handle the emotional ordeal of cleaning the body? Does anyone have any tips on what I can do to prepare myself for this big leap forward? Also, since you guys are nurses, what tips can you give me to be as helpful as possible to the nurses on my floor? Is there anything you would suggest I do before hand during my training or something like that? Im just so nervous and I know the experiences I gain here will be invaluable to me when I become the RN I dream of being...Im just so worried I might mess something up. Any advice from my seniors? any advice or words of encouragement would help greatly.

If your talking about standard healthcare in falls church I have a little info on them. I started their CNA program back in July and honestly that place is sooooo run down. If you just make one visit to the office its so beat up but, their staff is great and super friendly. The prices are about the same and if you live in the surrounding area its alot closer then fredricksburg but, they are relocating early next year I believe to Manasas which is sooooo far away. They got a brand new site and all new supplies and stuff but if you are not interested in the insane rt 66 traffic I would say look elsewhere because the commute out there is horrendous. Its to bad their moving out so far because the instructors are actually really great I think.

hey you guys who started on July 5th, how is it going so far and when does the next class take in? an update on me: Im currently in a 7 week cna program that didnt end in time so i decided to start in the next cycle at chamberlain. Man cna work is hard, but I think its going to help me a lot with my bedside manner and in the arena of experience. Plus, Im trying to get a hospital job after I get my certification and get them to pay a portion for my RN classes~ have to save my pennies lol.

Youaremymiracle, I actually wasnt talking about the bon, but now that you mention that I am more worried lol. I was talking about regional accreditation which I need to get into a masters program at a state school. But wow thanks for the heads up on the boa, wow I totally assumed they were already!

Im in the same boat too. Ive been taking pre reqs for what seems like forever and I'm just not going to give up 2 more years of my life to these community colleges. 3 years or more for associates? Ugh...I'm done with them, I call nova the place of broken dreams because that's what it does to most people. I want a bachelors too amd I'm a bit scared to go there because if they lose their accreditation before i get into a master program il be so screwed Buttt today I'm heading over to check it out at 2.

The credits at cts are not transferable anywhere. They are not regionally accredited.but you can still do a rn to bsn program.but you will have to retake all the book work classes.

At that campus there is only Medical Assit. and LPN classes there. Not RN. If you plan on becoming a RN do not go there. I started there and went for a month and they told me the classes dont transfer from their lpn to rn so really you will be wasting your time and money. Where do you live in VA? There is a school in fredricksburg called Career Training Solutions (one I am thinking of going in January). I already have all my general education and other book classes done at my community college but the waiting list for the clinicals are ludacris!! Anyway, its a fast program, you can go start to finish in 15 months. Another one is Radians in DC. Also Global health Training in alexndria va. Also Chamberlain just opened in arlington. and Excelsior. I know alot about most of the programs and have visited them lol. if you have anymore questions trust me i can answer them!! but please, stay away from lpn program if you want to become an rn and time is of the essence for u and kids :)

MCI's Nursing School Program
Hey nurse2brn, Can you tell me what are the prerequisites and what is the complete schedule of classes list for their program? Also, how long will it take for you to graduate from there now and what location are you attending? And, how do you feel about it so far? ...sorry I have so many questions! !

Germmana (sorry dont know how to spell it and im typing on my phone) also takes about 3 years maybe more considering all the prerequisites and tthe waiting period u maybe given based on priority and the fact it only takes in during fall and the applixations are due months before so economically your loosing at least 2 years nurse salary which would add up to the same amount I feel like.. I know what ur saying though.

MCI's Nursing School Program
WOW really? Thats highway robbery not to take University credits!!! I cant believe it... I would love to go there but not accepting my credits and so expensive...I honestly wouldnt mind the price so much because I absolutly LOVE the nursing field, but I already paid so much for the many credits I have now..hmmm Im thinking I might just go to the Career Training Solutions place in Fredricksburg Va. Does anyone here know anything about them? Like price and if I can transfer my credits?
