MCG Clinical Nurse Leader - Fall 2010

Published

I have applied to MCG's MSN-CNL Program to start in Fall 2010, and I am wondering if current/past students could tell me when (as in what month) they received a phone call for an interview or acceptance/rejection letters.

Additionally, I applied to the Athens Campus program, so will the interview be held in Athens, or will I need to drive to Augusta? Thanks for helping me plan ahead :) I really hope I am the type of candidate they are looking for!

I also plan on sticking with my provider (also BCBS). I'm doing the online waiver as soon as Pearce and Pearce lets me select Fall 2010 (right now, they're only doing Summer II waivers).

Pearce and Pearce opens on 6/15/2010 for Fall 2010 waivers accoring to a student helath rep I spoke with.

I just want to make sure I understand this right...for those of us who are attending the Athens campus, we will have Pearce and Pearce insurance and can use the UGA health center? Is that right? I also feel I am a little behind on my immunizations...can I have some input on where you guys are in your immunizations? Hope everyone had a great weekend!

uga dawg1696--if we enroll in the pearce and pearce insurance plan and pay the premium and the health center fee each semester and attend the SONAT we will get to use the UGA health center. I am taking this option as my current group health insurance with Aetna (we are considered a "micro" group) is costing me $600 a month and I simply can't afford that when school starts.

Which immunizations are you still missing? My best advice would be to see a General Practitioner or someone at a health department (since they carry everything at the health dept) and at least get your titers drawn and start the first in the series of any immun. you are missing as soon as possible. The form is supposed to be in 30 days prior to start of classes (July 16th I guess) so you need to be able to show them that you are in progress by then.

I am actually currently taking the remainder of my prereqs and am using my school's Student Health Services. It's way cheaper than a copay at a GP. I have had the hep series, so to get the titer is just $13, and to fill out the imm. form is an additional $5. Does anyone know what the time limit is on the hep b? My Firefighter friend thinks I may require a booster, as it's been several years since I've worked in the health field.

Also, any luck on apartment hunts in Augusta? I am from there, but haven't lived there in 12 years. I was looking in Summerville and Olde Town. Someone also told me that N. Augusta is really nice and just across the bridge from Downtown ~ 5min or a nice bike ride to campus. Rent's CHEAP compared to Atlanta! I've even seen 2 Br. for less than $500.

In regards to apt's in Augusta, since its been 12 years since you have been here, you are going to want to check out each and every prospect for a living space, since some places are really CHEAP because they are more DANGEROUS and a less dersirable place to live. Also, if you live in N. Augusta, you are no longer a GA resident, you become a South Carolina resident. But I have been here for 2 years, not forever, but long enough to know if its cheap its probably in the bad part of town. Good Luck.

It looks like the book lists are posted for NURS6100, NURS6300, and NURS6700 in PULSE (Student Records --> Course Schedule --> Search for Nursing Grad Courses -->course syllabus available). I looked up the courses under the Athens campus, so if you're at one of the others, I'd probably double check. Since NURS6700 has some media that is from 2005-2008 I went ahead and emailed one of the instructors to confirm the list was up to date. I'll let you all know what I hear.

Reply from Prof. Fidel

"These are the books we used last year. The Jarvis text is excellent. I need to check on the edition of the Taylor text, though. Check back with me tomorrow if you haven't heard from me--I've got lots of balls in the air just now!"

I'll update tomorrow, when I hear from her :)

I cant wait to buy all my book, as soon as I register for the classes officially, I am going to get them all :) I hope everyone is as excited as me. I can offer you this advice on all the recommended, the one not to skimp on is the drug guide.. get it new ( all the nurses I work with in the ER use it all the time whenver they have a question about dosing, admin method, or intercations. :)

I know that had a ton of errors haha. Can you tell I worked last night and it we were busy in the ER :) Sorry about that.

Prof Fidel emailed me and said there may be some revisions to the list. They will send out the official list in about a month.

So is everyone going to wait to buy any books until we know for sure?

Specializes in None.

I'll wait for confirmation and then I'll pick and choose which books I need.
