MCC nursing applicants for 2015

Published

Hello everyone!

I've been obsessively reading over the threads for the 2013 and 2014 applicants, but I thought I'd see if anyone will be applying to the Nursing program at Macomb Community College for 2015. I am a transfer student from Texas and will be taking A&P this summer then intro to Nursing (since MCC requires that you take their specific course) and micro in the Fall. I'm so excited to get back into school and was wondering if anyone is following along the same timeline.

I do agree that the standards should be high because of how important nursing is, however most university's standards are much lower than macombs due to the fact that macomb is super competitive because of how cheap and fast their nursing program is. Places like msu and u of d have an extremely low gpa minimum and they accept a ton of people simply because they can afford it. So while I am glad macomb is cheap and fast I hate that it is as well because that raises the standards that much more.not that that is a bad thing, just a more stressful thing haha

MSU is more competitive than you realize. I went there, and got into their program (long, stupid story there). Their classes are in a completely different ballpark than Macomb's, much more challenging, and the prerequisite list is so much longer. The semester I applied, they received 360 applications and took 60 students. They don't do the HESI, but the two years leading up to admission to the program are quite rigorous.

Anyway. Doesn't matter though, because we are all working so hard to make this dream a reality! I am truly excited to meet some of you next year! Does anyone know when we can get our ranks and can figure out when we will be starting, so we can figure out if any of us will be together?!?

The reason for my saying that the standards is too "high," is because from hearing different nursing stories from my co-workers, professors, and even the graduation percentage at most schools, shows that some nursing programs has a high drop out/ fail rate. So rather you score high on the hesi or any other entrance test in that matter, means nothing if you can't apply that to your nursing studies. " Just saying"

@kstarcher, I agree that the standards should be high. If it was first come first serve that wouldn't be fair. I think the people who want it more work their butts off and deserve it. As for ranks, I believe you can go up to enrollment services once you get accepted. Otherwise I don't think we get those letters with our start dates till end of June. I wouldn't worry. You're definitely an August start and definitely in the top 10 with your scores.

Oh I believe the course work is harder I mean it is a university lol I was only talking about the standards of getting in seeing as none of us are in macombs program and can't truly compare the two standards of the class work. As far as the pre reqs I was going to apply this year but decided against it due to funds and it was surprising a lot shorter than even oaklands. I was shocked. But it is still longer than macombs I will agree there

I'm excited too! I'm a nervous wreck but can't wait to see what that letter says!

We get our ranks when we pay the fee to secure our spots I think... Once we finally get our letters we can post gpa/HESI scores and get an idea where we stand. Good luck to all! I'm really hoping tomorrow will be the day!

There does need to be some type of standard to be accepted to nursing school, given the limited resources. But, book smart, doesn't always = good nurse. I believe that's why the dropout rate is so high.

Personally, I'm not totally disappointed that this road has been uphill. I think I will make a much better nurse now than I would have been years ago and though this is my 3rd time applying (which is crazy) It's proof to myself how important this career is for me.

Anything worth having is worth working for!! I hope this is my year, but if not, I will certainly still pursue an education in nursing.

@Kstarcher I'm pretty sure that if you receive a letter of acceptance, you're given a week to goto center campus and put down a $100 deposit to reserve your spot in the program, and it's then you find out your rank. Someone correct me if i'm wrong but i'm pretty sure that's how it goes. I literally cannot wait to meet everyone either!! Everyone on this forum has been so encouraging and it's like a big ole' support system.

@Kristi1986 you go girl, you got this

@kristi1986 This is your year for sure! You got this!
